Please add to your list: If the job posting instructs you to apply online, then apply online. Do NOT send me a resume if you have not applied online. My company only accepts online applications and people get mad when they don't recieve a call after faxing a resume. Do you know how many times a day I respond to emails instructing people to apply online? Come on!

That is a very good addition to the list. Basically, applicants should follow the instructions given in the employment ad or job request they are seeing. If it says submit by e-mail, then submit it that way. If it says no phone calls, do not call the company. If it says put 'Sales Director' in the Subject line, then put it in the subject line. Follow the rules set forth by the company. You will have better chances acquiring an interview if you follow their blueprint. :)

Thx 4 this! After reading this, the only thing that I SHOULD HAVE done on my recent resume that I submitted was actually add references, HOWEVER, I'm *safe* because I applied for another position within my same company. They KNOW my references. *whew* LOL

Great post! Thanks for taking the time to give your perspective as a former HR insider! As someone who is currently in the job market this was on time for me.

Question – do you have an opinion on the # of pages a resume should be?

    • Dannigyrl says:

The thing is, if you have a long job history or you are an older person, you will have a longer resume than someone who is fresh out of college. Be precise but brief in your descriptions. Never do a front and back resume. Always one separate sheets. Two pages is fine. Anything over than that is a little much unless you fit into the above categories.
