My 5 yr old daughter Thanksgiving morning.

My 5 yr old daughter Thanksgiving morning.

I hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving holiday. There is nothing better than family and spending time with the ones you love. This year, amongst all the turkey and dressing and other holiday fare,  I made a point of thinking about my life, reflecting on what is truly important. It is so easy to get caught up in the holiday media hype surrounding Christmas and Thankgsiving. With all of the commercials and Black Friday sales and whatnot, people (myself included) can get confused about the true meaning of this time of the year. But while I am participating in the shopping and giving and receiving, I am also thinking about how grateful I am. How beautiful my family is, and how blessed we all are.

When I was 18 and my son was about 2 months old, I went into the local Wal-mart because my son badly needed diapers. I didn’t have any money, barely a dime to my name, so I went into the store, got a pack of Huggies, and tried to steal them through the garden department. I was an easy mark, I had never stolen anything in my life and I was subsequently caught. They saw my son in the cart and took me to the office and told me not to come to that store again. They didn’t press charges.

That was fifteen long years ago.

I could’ve been in a horrible situation right now but I’m not. I turned my life around with the help of those around me and now I am in a much better place.

I am thankful that I got the opportunity to better my life and my family’s life. I am thankful that I am surrounded by a loving family who has unconditional love for me and my children. I am grateful that I have two healthy children. I am thankful for waking up this morning and for being able to have a career that I enjoy.

I am thankful for my life.

Happy Thanksgiving. And let’s all of us remember the true meaning of the holiday season. :)
