My 5 yr old Super Hero. Taken w/ my Blackberry Curve 8700
My five year old daughter is such a hoot! As we were doing our last little right before school dash scurrying around the house collecting her backpack, lunch box, coat, hat, gloves, etc., she said something that was so cute, I had to blog about it.
To give you a little backstory on our discussion, she is a lover of comic books. I owe that to her father, who is an avid comic book buff who actively reads comics and watches movies with comic heros with my daughter. He has taught her a lot of the super heros, not just the mainstream ones like Superman, Batman, Spiderman, but some obscure ones that I’ve never heard about such as The Beetle and Plastic Man. So anyway, my daughter is, like her father, a lover of all things comics. Which is cool with me because I like for her to use her imagination and artful mind and comics allow her to do that.
So I’m in the house running around gathering everything so we wouldn’t be late and she pulls on my sleeve and says: “Relax! Mommy, you are my favorite super hero!”
With the tough few days I’ve been having, I could’ve cried right there. It brought everything into prospective for me. See, its our kids who see the greatness in us despite our faults, our fears, our grown up sensibilities. Our kids see us raw, unmoved by the rigamarole that we face on a day-to-day basis. To us, we are unorganized, confused, shaken, but to them, we are the rocks of the family. Our children look up to us, not only as their parents and their caretakers, but as humans who mess up a time or two but always takes a licking but never quits.
It was so reassuring to hear that. To know despite her mother running around the room like a chicken with its head cut off, I am Mommy the Super Hero, a woman who can leap tall buildings in a single bound and get it all done without forming a sweat!
Blogging about this event is not only cathartic for me, but it serves as an online validation of my parenting. And in the end, most of us need validation in some sort, some appreciation to know that we are loved and wanted.
I am a super hero to her. And to me, she is a blessing and gift from God!

That is wonderful! She is a beautiful child and I hope you do feel validated and proud as a mother. It's good to see children that understand and appreciate all their parents do for them. She's your baby, and you may not want to hear it, but she's going to be a great mom later in life with your example. While I think all children are a gift from God, she's YOUR gift! Way to go, SuperMom!
That is such a beautiful thing for a mother to hear her child say. I am certain that at that very moment your heart melted as you stood there soaking in what she had just said to you. It is so wonderful and rewarding when our kids surprise us and do those unexpected things that validate all the long parenting hours we put in as also being the best. All you need now is your cape!
Yes that statement made my year! Really. The littlest things mean so much to you when you're a Mommy. I will always remember and treasure that moment.

LOL. If you saw her father, she is the spitting image of him, only female. She's a hoot though!
Aw…so true. All parents need a little validation & reassurance that its not all in vain from time to time. What a cutie! She even knows how to pose. Owww!
