Well, the AFC and NFC Championships are now in the record books and in two weeks, we will see the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints bang it out in South Florida for Super Bowl 44.
I will be hosting yet another Super Bowl fete in my home. Being the creative and small-time party planner that I am, I have come up with a few pretty good ideas for Super Bowl themed parties. It is all about the game, but having a fun get together with a few surprises for the guests is also a great way to enjoy an event like the Super Bowl.
- Super Bowl Pot Luck- This idea is kind of self explanatory. Each guest brings over a pot luck item enough to serve 8-10 people. This takes the hard work out for the host, who doesn’t have to be responsible for providing food for everyone attending.
- Super Bowl Drinking Game- For you liquor diehards, this game is for you. I do not suggest this game to those that will have kids in attendance because of course, liquor is for adults. - Super Bowl Commercial Game- There is only one thing that actually rivals the big game-commercials. You can turn your fun gathering into a commercial rating game in which the participants note and rate their favorite commercials. I have done this and it went over well. You can even make a document on WORD or a Spreadsheet in which people can keep track of their commercial votes/notes.
- Super Bowl Halftime Party- One year when the Halftime show was a snooze, I planned a halftime party in which I had performances from my guests, who sang or lip-synched their favorite songs. It was an American Idol type of situation and me and two other “judges” decided on the winner. Fun times!
- Friendly wagers- have everyone write down the team they want to win, the final score guess, etc. and have a raffle. The person with the correct team chosen and the closest score guess wins a prize!
When having a Super Bowl party, make sure you have enough room and chairs for people to sit. The game is most important, so big screens are usually the best thing to have for the game. In my home, I have a big screen and a large flat screen in the den, so people can spread out and enjoy themselves. Adeqate parking is mandatory as well so make sure you have enough room for vehicles to park. You may want to ask a neighbor if cars can park in their driveway(s).
Even if there is a person “in charge of bringing the drinks”, make sure you also have plenty of beer, sodas, and other beverages just in case. There is nothing like running out of drinks during a party. Sam’s and Costco are great for this!
There is nothing like the Super Bowl and I have a feeling this year will be the best yet!

i need ya'lls help. I'm planning a party for school and half the class is for the colt's, and the other team, saints. any ideas for teenagers to do something?
The party will be in the class? I would set up games where the kids can make their own mock Super Bowl commercials (like split them in groups and give them five minutes to come up with an idea) and then present it in front of the class. Also best fan posters. They can make their own during class. You can make Colt punch and Saints shakes. Things like that to implement both of the teams.
