The power of social media, I tell you.
MTV thought enough of Twitter and the social media wave that it came up with a contest to engage its readers and followers. The contest was for an MTV TJ (a Twitter Jockey) for their brand, and it was a stroke of genius for the network. Hundreds of thousands applied (including STL’s own Daniellesmyname) and in the end, only one remained. Blogger Gabi Gregg from Young, Fat, and Fabulous won and landed a gig of a lifetime. She will now be paid $100,000 to tweet as the official MTV TJ. She beat out many self-named Twitter celebrities with her “fresh” approach to social media and social networking.

Social media and new media strategies are what companies such as MTV utilize in order to stay hot. If your company isn’t riding the wave, you are losing.
