Your story and my story are pretty much exactly the same. My grandma used to live with us and every morning I’d sit at the table with her and drink coffee, well more like milk and sugar with coffee, out of a fancy cup and saucer.
Once I grew up and had the opportunity to drink it I wasn’t a fan and still am not. I can bear it, once I found a roast that wasn’t too strong. I may drink a coffee drink once every few months but definitely not on the regular

I don’t like coffee and I don’t like beer for the same reason, they taste bitter to me. Coffee smells fantastic to me, and I think that is so weird because our senses of taste and smell are so closely related. When I drink hot beverages, usually in the winter, I prefer cocoa or tea. Hot tea with honey and lemon is great for a sore throat, and hot chocolate with butterscotch shnapps is great to warm up with after being out in the cold.

My coffee-drinking habits are weird… my parents didn’t drink it, I hated the smell, swore I would never drink it. In high school, I started drinking those icey mochas from Panera; that evolved into iced coffee; and just last winter, I started drinking regular coffee at work. And I adore the smell now!Very strange. I do still prefer iced coffee drinks over hot though.

I didn’t like coffee until I began working professionally and slowly the taste and temperature became something that I liked more and more as I became familiar with better types of coffee.
I don’t need it to stay awake or for an energy boost. I don’t like cold coffee drinks. If I drink too much, it upsets my stomach or makes me overly nervous. I prefer sweeter, milk-based flavored coffees and find myself drinking at least one large latte per day if not two.
I’m a first-thing-in-the-morning-on-the-way-to-work Starbucks fiend, but far from a coffee connoisseur. Gotta have it.
