I have written numerous pieces on this website about celebrities and Twitter—most of it has not been positive. The reason being is following celebrities on Twitter is a gift and a curse; the gift is being able to see a different side of your favorite stars that you might have not otherwise seen. The curse is being able to see a different side of your favorite starts that you might have not otherwise seen. When that filter is let down from the proverbial “star power, PR controlled spectacle” that is usually packaged for us when it comes to our favorite celebs, then the true person behind the name is shown. Sometimes that can be good, but most of the times, it’s bad. When we learn how human they are (and sometimes how obnoxious and narcissistic), it usually leaves us with one option—unfollow.
But not all is bad in the world of Twitter. There are many celebrities on the social networking site that engage their followers, tweet good stuff, and have wonderful personalities despite the filter being down. I have been on the Twitter since 2008, and I’ve followed and unfollowed hundreds of celebrities, so I thought I would share with you 10 celebrities that you should be following on Twitter.

Questlove—Questo of The Roots (@Questlove):
Questlove was one of the first celebs that I followed when I signed on to Twitter. I was constantly seeing him retweeted in my timeline and he always had something witty and clever to say, so he is definitely worth the follow. And he was one of the people who confirmed the death of Teddy Pendergrass when he died in 2009. If you aren’t following Questo, you are losing. And 1,449,831 people agree with me.
Wil Wheaton (@wilw):
I had a huge crush on Wil when he was in Stand By Me in the 80′s. When I was told he was on Twitter by my homette FlyBlackChick, I followed instantly. He’s snarky, always on top of pop culture, and will engage you if you engage him enough. He’s also kind of funny too and doesn’t mind making fun of himself. It’s a win/win!
Holly Robinson Peete (@HollyrPeete):
Holly is the mother of 4 and now 1/4 of the new daytime talk show The Talk. Holly is best on Twitter when she is tweeting during NFL games. I like her sense of humor and the fact that she will engage with you if you tweet her. She isn’t one of those celebs who follow only celebs. Follow her and you won’t be sorry.
Alyssa Milano (@Alyssa_Milano):
This chick is so sick with her technology game— (sick meaning GOOD)! I never would’ve pegged the former Who’s the Boss star as a tech geek but she is always on time with her tech news and tweets. She is a bonafide iPhoner (and I NOT) but I still like her. And while she has never tweeted me after countless times of me tweeting her, I keep her in my arsenal of celebs I follow because her tweets bring value to my stream. She’s cool.
Donna Brazile (@DonnaBrazile):
Donna probably doesn’t peg herself as a celeb, but she is a high powered political strategist and sometime pundit, so she’s a celebrity in my eyes. Donna always tweets the truth no matter if it is pro or against her Democratic party. If you are into politics and the goings on of our country, follow Donna!
Kanye West (@kanyewest):
Kanye is one of those celebs that you just have to follow because it is like watching a train wreck. And we already know he’s a little on the crazy side with his antics so it didn’t take Twitter to reveal that. If you are into entertainment, and Kanye goes into one of his rants, you want him in your stream, for sure.
Martha Stewart (@MarthaStewart):
You’ve got to follow Martha Stewart because….well…she did time for white collar crime and came back even harder. If that is not a reason to follow, I don’t know what is. On a side-note though, I am not sure it is actually Martha tweeting. I do hear her voice in my head when her tweets come across my timeline. Go figure.
Khloe Kardashian (@khloekardashian):
When it comes to the Dash sisters, Khloe is the one with the personality. Her tweets are fun, and unlike Kim, she actually tweets you back when you engage her. Khloe is my BFF in my head and I enjoy her tweets—check her out for yourself.
LeVar Burton (@levarburton):
He’s Levar Burton! What other reason do you need to follow him. Take a look, it’s in a book, on Reading Rainbow, fools!
Jane Fonda (@JaneFonda):
Jane Fonda only has a little over 100,000 followers—what is up with that? Anyway, she doesn’t tweet a lot but when she does, she always drop gems. She’s provocative (at times), knowledgeable, and insightful about her legacy and her career.

i like your list…I think you should add Star Jones @StarJonesEsq to it. She’s funny surprisingly real on Twitter. She keeps it 100 and has tweeted me back a couple of times and her take on the things that are going on is fun to read
@Missbusibee—I also follow Star Jones. It’s hard to cut the list down to just 10 so I tried to make it as well rounded as possible. She is a good celeb to follow though, you are right. Thanks for the suggestion and addition.

This is a great post. I wasn’t really into twitter for too long when I first joined. Then went on a binge of following every player, for every team, every musician, every celebrity I had a crush on and the list goes on.
A few I already have and you are dead on about Kanye, Mrs Peete, ?Love and Alyssa Milano. The others I will add to my new, more “streamlined” account now that I see how the timelines get cluttered!
