What Does Valentine’s Day Mean To You?

Is it the romance in the air? The flowers, the chocolate, or Cupid’s arrow? Is it the red hearts that cover every gift shop and every market? Or is it simply because it is a holiday that is all about L-O-V-E?

Whatever the case, Valentine’s Day is a day that you either love or you hate. For those of us who have a special someone, it can be a day that is filled with gestures of love and kindness. If you have kids, chances are, they are in on the Valentine’s Day pomp and circumstance as well, letting you be creative and spend quality time with them making arts and crafts. But if you are alone or going through a rough patch romantically, Valentine’s Day can bring out the Scrooge in you.

But what does Valentine’s Day really mean to you?

For me, it means a day for me to show the people in my life who I really care about that I love them. It’s not about gifts or expensive dinners or money—-it’s the thought that I have some pretty special people in my life and I am pretty darned lucky to have them!

My 7 year old daughter and I spend a lot of time around Valentine’s Day making arts and crafts and creating her Valentines for her class. It’s a time where she and I bond over coming up with ideas for us to show one another how we feel about each other. For me, above everything else, is this time that I spend with her. It has become a celebration of our relationship as mom and daughter and I hope that we continue this tradition even after she gets older.

There are some people out there who cannot stand Valentine’s Day and everything it represents. But for me, I know love, so I want to show love. To everyone who is in my life. Valentine’s Day is a great time to do that.

What does Valentine’s Day mean to you? Is it a drag, or is it something that you look forward to? Speak on it! And have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
