Steel Magnolias Remake Premieres on Lifetime Oct. 7th

Back in July, I brought you the news that Queen Latifah was executive producing a remake of the 1989 film Steel Magnolias starring an all-black cast. The film which is being broadcast on the Lifetime network has an official premiere date of Sunday, October 7th at 9pm/8pm EST.

There are a lot of mixed feelings about the remake. The original Steel Magnolias was a sappy, yet highly acclaimed film that starred Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Daryl Hannah, Julia Roberts, Olympia Dukakis, and Shirley MacLaine, is the type of movie that was pretty much perfection. To remake it is a little interesting to say the least, but I am anxious to see how they are going to bring it back to life.

The new Steel Magnolias stars Queen Latifah as M’Lynn (Sally Field’s character), Jill Scott as Truvy (Dolly Parton’s character), Phylicia Rashad as Clairee (Olympia Dukakis’ character), Candola Rashad will play Shelby (Julia Roberts’ character), Adepero Oduye plays Annelle (Darryl Hannah’s character), Alfred Woodard plays Ousier (Shirley MacLaine’s character).

The teaser for 2012′s Steel Magnolias really has me anxious to see the film. Watch the teaser below:

What are your thoughts on the Steel Magnolia’s remake? Will you be watching?
