It is the number one killer of women, so we cannot sit idly by without doing something about this serious epidemic. Do right by the cause and show your support by being fabulous in something red.

Friday, February 3rd is National Wear Red for Heart Disease, a day in which we all show our support for those dealing with heart disease. Since the inception of my blog, I have participated in National Wear Red Day and have urged my readers to do so. This year, I will not only be wearing red but attending the Bleeding Heart Project Launch Event in Chicago. The event is being hosted by BHP founder Raijean Stroud, who is a fashion blogger. She suffers from congestive heart failure and has had numerous surgeries and procedures since being diagnosed. Raijean wants to educate and empower others to take control of their health and encourages support and outreach through the Bleeding Heart Project.

The month of February has also been deemed Heart Awareness Month, and there will be plenty of events, programs, and digital attention on the importance of heart health and heart disease prevention.

My father also has congestive heart failure and suffers from heart disease. He has had 2 heart attacks and several stints put into his arteries to open them up. Heart disease runs in my family, so I also have to keep an eye on my heart health. It's not something I take lightly.

Please make sure to wear red on Feb. 3rd and show your support. Also, I would love to feature you on my blog later this month in a post about supported of heart disease prevention. To be featured, take a photo of yourself wearing red and send it to info@thecubiclechick.com.

Let's show the world how fab red is!

Since I began my blog in October of 2009, I have made it a point to speak about diabetes and share information regarding this horrible disease. As you may already know, my father was diagnosed with diabetes about 10 years ago, and he has had to drastically watch what he eats and change his living habits. This past summer, my father was hospitalized due to his high sugar level, which almost had him in a coma state. Since that time, we have been working with his doctor to ensure that he is not only eating the right foods, but also taking his medicine.

I also experienced gestational diabetes during both of my pregnancies. Although I am tested yearly for elevated blood sugar levels and my sugar has remained at a normal level for years, women who experience gestational diabetes often develop diabetes later in life.

Diabetes is not a disease that you play with, and it can be a deadly disease, causing thousands of people to lose their lives every year.

According to the American Diabetes Association:

Every 17 seconds, someone is diagnosed with diabetes.

Diabetes kills more people each year than breast cancer and AIDS combined.

Recent estimates project that as many as 1 in 3 American adults will have diabetes in 2050 unless we take steps to Stop Diabetes.

In order to show your support for those with diabetes, the American Diabetes Association wants you to take action. You can begin by sharing with your social network that November is American Diabetes Month. You can also take the ADA pledge on their Facebook page to help stop diabetes.

You can also attend an American Diabetes Association event in your area, or visit StopDiabetes.com to learn more about the disease and what you can do to help.

Will you stand up and participate in American Diabetes Month?

When I was little, I always enjoyed my grandmother's stuffed bell peppers, so I scoured the Internet looking for a recipe that I could try out.

The Cube Recipe Remix is a series of posts I will be doing as a new cook and someone who has just found her way around the kitchen. These recipes have been tried and tested in my home kitchen, and are remixed from the soul with my family in mind.

Now that I am cooking on a regular basis during the week, I have been searching for recipes that have easy prep time and that my family would enjoy. When I was little, I always enjoyed my grandmother's stuffed bell peppers, so I scoured the Internet looking for a recipe that I could try out. Allrecipes.com had a fabulous recipe on their site, so with a little tweaking, I knew it would be perfect for my brood.

With the help of my trusty Xoom Shelby, I was able to follow along with the recipe in my kitchen with no problems at all. How fab is that?

I call my version Stuffed Belle Peppers because, well I am a wonderful Beauty Belle---it was a perfect way to get that use of the word in.

You will need the following items:

5 or 6 bell peppers

Rice

Diced tomatoes

Lean ground beef

Diced garlic to taste

Salt to taste

Italian seasoning to taste

Oregano to taste

Basil to taste

Parmesan cheese

Tomato soup

Worcestershire Sauce

Here's my remix:

Put water in a large pot with salt and boil

Rinse and cut your green bell peppers. Core out the center and remove the seeds

Add peppers to large pot of boiling water for 5 to 7 minutes

Preheat oven to 350

Add ground beef to a pan and add seasoning (salt, oregano, basil, Italian seasoning). Cut the garlic and add to the beef mixture. Add the diced tomatoes

Prepare rice

Remove bell peppers and put them in a pan coated with Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Add rice to the beef mixture and begin to heat the tomato soup

Add 1 cup of tomato soup and a few tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce.

Add Parmesan cheese to mixture

Add 1 cup of tomato soup to bottom of the bell peppers

Stuff the mixture in the bell peppers, leaving 2 to 3 inches from the top

Pour tomato soup to the top of the bell peppers

Put in the oven for 15 minutes

Remove bell peppers and add your choice of shredded cheese

Cook in oven for 10-15 more minutes

Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese

Let it rest for 2 to 3 minutes, then serve

You may have extra beef stuffing left. In my case, I did, so I packed it in a container to freeze to make next time.

The recipe won resounding approval from my family, and I was very pleased with the zestiness of the stuffing in the peppers. The use of real garlic (not powder) and Italian seasoning gave it an extra kick.

I will be making my Stuffed Belle Peppers a part of my weekly menu rotation. Try it out for yourselves and let me know what you think! :)

My first trip to the grocery store post BlogHer, I saved $35 off of the total price of my bill. And I didn't even use all of the coupons I was given.

Couponing has never been my thing. I've tried in the past to clip coupons a few times but I ended up either forgetting them when I shopped or let them expire before I was able to use them. Pretty much, I was a couponing FAIL of epic proportions, so I chalked it as something that I wasn't cut out to do in life. It was when I visited BlogHer last month in San Diego that I was introduced to a lot of coupons during the conference---good ones too for free or half off on a lot of products that I actually buy and use. It was then that I set out to make this couponing thing work for me and my family, because, who doesn't like to save money?

My first trip to the grocery store post BlogHer, I saved $35 off of the total price of my bill. And I didn't even use all of the coupons I was given. Seeing that reduction on my bill made me realize that it was worth me putting in some time into it to try to save money each and every week.

So now that I am almost 4 weeks into couponing, I have learned the following things:

Do your homework: The savings come, not just in coupon's face value, but in what the price of the product is BEFORE you use the coupon. The goal is to ultimately spend as less as you can on the item. So if the item is on sale at Place B and you are at Place C, you aren't getting the most out of your money. Find and compare the actual price of items before you hit the road and shop where the item is lowest, increasing the savings with your coupon.

Be organized: I don't shop with a coupon binder (I am in the market for one, though, so if you know of a good one, please let me know), but I do shop with a list on my smartphone and I pull and separate my coupons before I enter the store. This helps me attack my savings and make sure that I am getting everything I need.

Only buy what you need: On shows like Extreme Couponing, you see families stockpiling items. I do believe you should have a surplus on the items you use, but I am really picky about food and feeding my family a lot of packaged and processed foods. I also don't have a lot of space for storing a lot of overflow, so I only buy what I need. I think when you are truly buying to save, you aren't in it to overbuy. And in the end, it really isn't necessary.

The goal is to SAVE: The most I have saved on a shopping trip at one store has been the $35 I mentioned earlier. The least amount I have saved has been $7. I am realistic in my expectations and understand I may not save big each and every time I shop. But when I add up my monthly savings, there is a significant amount still left in my account because of couponing.

Use the Internet: There are items that I buy that I have yet to see coupons for in the newspaper. I have learned to use the Internet to my advantage and go to the company's website to see if they have a printable coupon I can use in the store. This has worked for me several times, and I don't leave the house until I have checked all of the websites to see if printable coupons are available. There are also many couponing sites that will let you print out coupons at your leisure. You can check out Crate and Barrel coupons and Harry and David coupons.

Know the store's couponing policy: Holding up the line because you don't know the store's couponing policy is not a good look. If you have any questions, consult a store manager before heading to the checkout line.

Participate in store savings clubs: A lot of drugstores and grocery stores have discount or savings clubs that you can enroll in (usually for free) and earn points and rewards that you can use when you shop. Great for using, you guessed it, with coupons!

Don't let television shows and atypical couponers give you a bad taste about clipping coupons. On an average, I have saved $15 per shopping trip using my coupons and quite pleased with that. Hopefully I can get better sniffing out deals and bargains in order to put my coupons to work even more for me, but so far so good.

What are your thoughts? Do you clip coupons? What is your average savings per trip? And what tips do you have for me? :)

Not everyone works a typical 9 to 5 shift. There are millions of Americans who work the night shift, also known as the graveyard shift, which is during the hours of 11 to 7 am. People working this shift must change their schedules drastically in order to work and manage their personal life. As someone who has never worked a late shift, I commend those that work these hours, which must create a lot of havoc in their personal lives. If you are a parent, working the night shift cannot be easy.

According to Men's Health Network in a study in conjunction with Celphalon, Inc., your shift can create problems with your health. 1,500 shift employees that work non traditional shifts were polled (nurses, air traffic controllers, firefighters, factory workers, etc.) and the evidence clearly indicated a pattern. The study "found that 79% believe they are negatively impacted by their shift work reporting anxiety, irritability, anger and depression, and decreased work productivity and time spent with family".

These traits are usually referred to as shift work disorder (or shift work sleep disorder). It "affects up to 25% of night or rotating shift workers and has potential consequences including decreased productivity and trouble focusing, an increased susceptibility to intestinal and heart diseases".

I spoke to my friend, Claire, who works the graveyard shift at a Neo-Natal unit at a large hospital here in St. Louis, and she says that there are times when she feels that she doesn't have enough time to spend with her kids or her family since they are gone when she is home and then when they are home, she is getting ready to leave for work.

"I can't say that I suffer from shift work disorder, but I do know that working a shift like I do does make it hard to be a part of the lives of the people you love because everything seems to happen when you aren't available. I sleep from the hours of 12 to 6 and then once I get up and do the family thing, it's time for me to get ready for work. It's not ideal but it's what I do, and I am fine with that."

According to the Wake Up Squad, shift work disorder is treatable and is a recognizable disease in the medical community. "Because of this disruption in the body's natural rhythm, people with shift work disorder may struggle to stay awake during their working hours, known as excessive sleepiness, or have trouble sleeping during their sleeping hours, known as insomnia".

It is commonly known that the air traffic control accidents that have been happening recently are due to this disorder. The cases of individuals falling asleep on the job while working these difficult hours have been well documented.

What are your thoughts? Do you or someone you know work the night shift and suffer from shift work disorder?

Ten years later, I still struggle with staying in shape, but I still enjoy Crystal Light. So I've entered their 'Flavor Over Fizz Challenge' in which we were asked to submit pictures of our Crystal Light drinks spruced up with a little bit of fabulosity.

As a Cubicle Chick that now works in her own home office tucked neatly on my porch, I find myself looking for new ways to keep it festive in my workspace. I am a reformed soda-holic who has tried to do her best NOT to drink soda---some days I succeed, and sometimes I fail, but I do know that incorporating other drinks and juices in my regimen does wonders. We all know that soda is not good for us, so having fun and flavorful alternatives are key to staying away from the fizz.

I began drinking Crystal Light when I was on a diet in 2001, and not only did I lose tons of weight because I didn't drink soda, but I found that Crystal Lights drinks were the business----I didn't miss soda at all.

Ten years later, I still struggle with staying in shape, but I still enjoy Crystal Light. So I've entered their 'Flavor Over Fizz Challenge' in which we were asked to submit pictures of our Crystal Light drinks spruced up with a little bit of fabulosity.

Below are pictures of my concoction entitled, 'Cubicle Hole-PUNCH' made with Crystal Light's Fruit Punch and Green Tea Raspberry. Crystal Light's easy to use On-the-Go packets make it easy for you to drink while you are on the move; just add it to your water bottle or your travel tumbler (with water of course) and voila, you are all set!

What do you think of my 'Cubicle Hole-PUNCH'?

There is so much that we do in a day that a restful and peaceful sleep goes a long way. Having a reliable mattress that allows for good sleep is an absolute must, but don't underestimate what the right type of pillow can do for you. Having a great pillow that supports your neck and gives you a pleasant sleep is most awesome, and with Sleep Innovations REJUVENATION Pillow, you get just that! (and then some)

I received my Sleep Innovations REJUVENATION Pillow two weeks ago, and let me tell you, I have been sleeping like a baby. The soft support along with the "hump" in the middle of the pillow supports the neck and shoulders and is really comfortable. The pillow is also made with memory foam that is uber comfy and soft.

The only drawback is because the pillow isn't shaped like a "normal" pillow, I have had a hard time fitting my pillowcases over it. I sleep with satin pillowcases because of my hair, so I have had to make some adjustments with my pillowcase. Other than that, the REJUVENATION pillow is awesome.

I have the opportunity to give away one (1) REJUVENATION Pillow to a lucky reader. To enter to win the pillow, you must do the following:

Follow me on both Twitter and Facebook

Subscribe to my blog feed

Tweet the following: "I entered to win a @ChooseSI REJUVENATION Pillow via @TheCubicleChick"

Comment below and let me know you've done as instructed.

One winner will be selected at random. Open to U.S. residents only, void where prohibited. The item will be shipped to the winner by Sleep Innovations. The winner will be announced on Twitter and Facebook and will have 24 hrs to claim prize, or an alternate winner will be chosen. This giveaway ends on 7/28. The pillow retails for $35.00

Good luck! And get your sleep on with Sleep Innovations REJUVENATION Pillow.

I, The Cubicle Chick, was given a REJUVENATION Pillow to review by Sleep Innovations. This by no means affected the outcome of my review of the product.
