Cubicle dwellers and office outsiders have one thing in common: they usually have a love/hate relationship with their jobs. Despite what a lot of people think, most people do like their jobs. It's not the job they usually loathe, it's the pay or the conditions in which they work that may be the thorn in one's side. ...

TweetYou all know that “selfish” coworker I am referring to. The one who wants to put in the absolute minimum amount of work he or she can but tries to take all of the credit. The employee who hands you their work always late and full of errors because they fail to check it for accuracy. The coworker who always forgets it was their turn to bring in the card or birthday cake for your colleague and is always MIA when you need them. Yes, THAT selfish coworker. I’ve had my share of working with these individuals. And let me say, that is one of the things I miss least since I have abandoned the cubicle for working at home. When you are working in a team atmosphere (and most employment situations are as such) there is always a “weakest link”. But the question begs, are you the one? If ...

TweetWe’ve all had embarrassing or weird things or situations happen to us at work. I know I for one, have had tons. So many, that my initial plan for this website/blog was to post embarrassing work scenarios that I witnessed or was a part of in the workplace. Yes, that was the first vision of The Cubicle Chick. But let’s not digress. I recently took to my Facebook page to ask the question— “what’s the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you at work?” I received some interesting answers in response: Kawanzaa Said: I was working at Lucent Technologies and I was on the elevator with one of the few female VPs of the company. TweetI received an email from a reader who did not want me to publish the contents of her letter, but wanted to me answer this question: Is there such a thing as privacy at work”. She was asking because she felt her privacy had been violated due to the fact that her boss read all of her “personal” emails on the laptop she used for company business. Apparently she had synched her private mail account into her Outlook, which also served as the host of her business mail account. When she went on vacation and left the laptop with her boss, her boss went through the contents and read several emails which we explicit in nature and time stamped during company time. The reader wanted to sue. My answer? There is no such thing as privacy at work. Especially when you are using company equipment on company time for personal ...

TweetEvery office has one. The person who always has to rain on everyone else’s parade when good news has been given. The person who always has to go back and be a news gazette to management. The one who will purposely not give you your messages so that you look bad. Chances are, you have a hater in your office. Having a hater in your office is a rite of passage. It’s also something that you cannot avoid. But what you can control is how you choose to deal (or not deal) with their negative behavior and backstabbing tactics. Never let your office mate know that you know they are a hater. What they want is for you to spazz out and make a scene in the office, therefore making you look like the bad guy. Don’t succumb to their need for attention. Also never let the office hater see ...
