By now, you've all heard the horrible details. The satiric and "false-headline news" making site, The Onion shared a tweet last night during the Oscars that called nine year old Academy Award nominated actress Quvenzhané Wallis a c*%t. I won't repeat the word here because it's not a word that even comes out of my mouth, but I'm sure you know what I'm referring to. ...

Facebook is the #1 social networking site in the world, but it is without problems, especially for those who use it. I am not by any means stepping on a high horse, because trust me, I am guilty as charged. But what would life be without Facebook? What could we be doing with that 53 billion hours other than sitting on Facebook, refreshing our screens to see if anyone has liked our latest online manifesto? ...

But just like any new thing on the innerwebs, there are always those that simply don't get it---I mean, how many times did you have to explain to someone how to use Twitter before people finally caught on? Google+ has its advantages and I can see it being one of the most used social networks, especially since they learned from their unfortunate Wave debacle in 2009. ...

TweetI love supporting causes and programs that can help lives and touch others. I recently was made aware of a new campaign for National Breast Cancer month entitled, ‘Hello, My Name Is Hope’. There are so many people who’s lives are touched in some way by breast cancer—we all have a friend or family member or colleague who has been touched in some way by this disease. Quill.com’s, ‘Hello, My Name Is Hope’ program wants to give a voice to everyone who supports breast cancer awareness or has been affected by it. ‘Hello, My Name Is Hope’ is spearheaded by Quill.com (a leading business-to-business online and direct marketer of office products) and is Facebook based. Quill.com is urging everyone on Facebook to, ” post and personalize virtual “Hello My Name is Hope” stickers on their profiles to honor both survivors and victims of the disease. The familiar “Hello My Name ...

TweetWhen I heard earlier this year that they were coming out with a movie about Facebook, I frowned. I didn’t know why someone would want to sit for two hours and watch a movie about Facebook in the theaters and quickly discarded it as a bad move. Facebook is everywhere these days, I figured. It need not be at my local cinema too. About a month ago, I saw the preview of the film using Kanye’s ‘Power’ as the musical backdrop and was suddenly intrigued. It wasn’t a movie about Facebook, but how it was created and tore two best friends apart. Seeing that this was the angle of the film and being I am a social media enthusiast, I was game. So on Friday, me and my other half went to see the Facebook movie, ‘The Social Network’, which stars Jesse Eisenberg (as founder and creator Mark Zuckerberg), Andrew ...

TweetI took to my Twitter and Facebook yesterday and asked the fashion old question for the ages: Do you wear white after Labor Day? When I was little, I remember my mother and grandmother were both adamant about me not wearing white after Labor Day. Supposedly, Labor Day marked the end of summer and thus dark, more neutral beiges and browns were par for the course and not white. I came up thinking that wearing white after Labor Day was an absolute no no. Fast forward to my present life and YES, darlings, I wear white after Labor Day. White is a year around color that can be worn any season at any time. It can be dressed up or worn casually. And a pretty winter white pea coat is like JOY to my eyes. The wearing white after Labor Day rule doesn’t apply to everyone anymore. Here are some ...

TweetYesterday morning when I checked my email, I was inundated with news about rapper/producer Kanye West joining Twitter and performing an impromptu “concert” for Facebook staffers. I really didn’t think this was news per-se; celebrities have been on Twitter since its beginning and Facebook has seen it’s share of stars come through their doors (such as Ashton Kutcher, etc.). Why was this news? Then people began to tweet and discuss Kanye’s Twitter follower numbers at length (which were at 50,000 in just three hours after he had joined—he’s now at over 200,000— and he follows no one womp womp) and a recording of his freestyle appearance at Facebook surfaced on YouTube. It got me to thinking: are celebrities taking over social networks? And secondly, are they ruining our social networking experience? I really began to question this a few weeks ago when LeBron James joined Twitter, and held everyone captive ...

TweetI first came in contact with Kat last year through Blacksportsonline. I needed a logo made for my new blog and she came high recommended from BSO. We quickly began working and collaborating on a logo which I used for several months before developing a brand logo. I can’t say that I know Kat personally, but what I have learned from her online, is that she is a strong, Christian wife and mother of five children who seamlessly is able to blend social media into the business of her blog and web design endeavors. Recently, I began noticing that Kat was tweeting about auditioning for American Idol, and even had her Twitter followers and blog readers choose what song she would use to audition via clips on You Tube. It was then that I began thinking that Kat’s social media story needed to be told—she is savvy in her social ...

Tweet..in real life. You know, the place that we actually live, pay our bills, eat, drink, etc.? I have been noticing a trend within myself, and it was also brought to my attention by another friend who found she was doing the same thing. The more social and interactive we are with each other online, the more less social we are in person. Let’s call it: The Anti-Socialization Of Social Networking. We were having lunch together, but both of us were on our phones, her a Droid, me a Blackberry, tweeting and Facebooking and Foursquaring and blogging (yes, I Blog From The Berry). Can we lead a life of synergy between both social networking and real life socialization? What are your thoughts? I would like to hear from you! ...

TweetWe’ve all had embarrassing or weird things or situations happen to us at work. I know I for one, have had tons. So many, that my initial plan for this website/blog was to post embarrassing work scenarios that I witnessed or was a part of in the workplace. Yes, that was the first vision of The Cubicle Chick. But let’s not digress. I recently took to my Facebook page to ask the question— “what’s the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you at work?” I received some interesting answers in response: Kawanzaa Said: I was working at Lucent Technologies and I was on the elevator with one of the few female VPs of the company. Trying to make a connection and small talk, I turn to her and say, “oh congratulations!” “when are you due?” She looks at me and says, ” due?” ” nope… I’m not pregnant.” You ...
