It may be too hot outside to partake in the sun and fun, but a fab activity that you can do indoors is taking a cooking class with your child. I recently enrolled in a cooking class session at Dierbergs School of Cooking with my 8 year old daughter and here's our review! ...

Yesterday during a visit to NBC's Today Show, Food Network star, chef, restauranteur, and author, Paula Deen, confirmed the rumors that she has been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. This was not a surprise to most, since the types of foods Paula cooks on her show (filled with butter, heavy cream, sugar, etc.) are not the healthiest recipes one can prepare. ...

TweetI so want to bring out my inner chef! A foodie by nature, and I wish I knew how to create more creative dishes. Which is why I watch Food Network a lot because I find that their talented cooks know how to make delicious food. The next Food Network Star reality show competition ended last week with the winner, Aarti Sequiera, bringing home the title and winning her very own show on Food Network called Aarti Party! On Aarti Party which premiered yesterday afternoon, Aarti cooks American food with an Indian twist. Her first show featured Sloppy ‘Bombay’ Joes Indian style made with turkey ginger, cumin, raisins, and pistachios. Who knew Sloppy Joes could be made with those ingredients? Her debut show also featured a massaged kale salad and for dessert? Creamy pistachio pops. It is good to see that the Food Network in embracing ethnic foods and diverse ...

TweetBecause of the Fourth of July holiday, my weekend began on Thursday evening. I had a great date night in mid-town at Triumph Grill near St. Louis University. This wonderful find was recommended to me by @AngeBird on Twitter. Thanks Ange! Little did I know that Triumph is located right next door to ‘The Moto Museum’, which houses antique and original motorcycles. I am not a motorcycle girl by any stretch of the imagination, but I was in awe looking at these machines. Some motorcycles were over sixty years old. WOWzers. The food at Triumph Grill was great. I munched on an Angus burger with mushrooms and swiss cheese with a side of homemade cut french fries. The appetizer, though was the bomb! Stuffed mushrooms with a great batter that made my stomach do happy summersaults. Life is good! My date had the chipotle wings, and he didn’t speak much ...

TweetI have fallen in love with Yelp! That is because STL Head Yelper Abby invites me to such cool and groovy things. And because I love to eat, why wouldn’t I like a review website that let’s me know the cool, hot, and hip places to visit in the city? Abby invited a bunch of us local bloggers and Yelp friends to a Yelp Eats 2010 Event at The Shaved Duck which is located in South City St. Louis. I had never been to this place before, but as I perused the menu on their website before attending the fete, I knew it was going to be something I could dig. The Shaved Duck’s tagline is: barbecue, folk, soul. And yes, it’s all that and then some. First off, I love the atmosphere and the quaintness of it all. It’s a small inside eating space but is filled with a ...

TweetIf you have been a follower of mine on Twitter, you know that I adore Sunday brunch. I try to partake in brunch every chance I get an opportunity to. With my new weight loss plan, brunch is not on the menu, but I indulge every few weeks so I can get my fix (I call it cheat days). Brunch is usually a combination of breakfast and lunch foods. Its like havig the best of both worlds! My usual Sunday brunch spot, Granite City Food and Brewery started Saturday brunch and invited me and the family to check it out today. The verdict? I LOVED it. It didn’t have as many options as the Sunday brunch variety, but the food was fresh, cooked well, and I totally dug the omelette station. Saturday brunch is not new in many cities, but it is a new thing here in St. Louis. And ...

TweetI cannot believe it has been nine weeks since I began my weight loss plan, but it has. During these nine weeks, I have cut soda completely from my diet and I have been watching my food intake, staying away from fried and fatty foods, and getting some exercising in as well. Since I have begun my weight loss journey, I have lost 19.5 lbs total. I would like to lose another 20 lbs and think I can successfully do it by the end of June. Below is a photo of me taken yesterday before my Tweet-Up brunch. Most of the weight loss has been in my stomach area. I am still waiting for my face to slim down but I am happy so far with my results. During the next few weeks, I am going to to keep up with my eating plan and increase my water intake. I ...

TweetI am not much of a cook. Don’t get me wrong, I do know how to cook. But I am limited on the items I make, one because my son especially is really finicky when it comes to food and two, I haven’t been exposed to a lot of home cooked dishes. Growing up, my mother seldom cooked. We ate out almost every day. And when she did cook, it was something fast and easy and like tacos, hamburgers, spaghetti, and I find myself making those same items for my children at home too. Don’t get me wrong. I make a mean Hungarian Beef Skillet Stew, and I can throw down on tuna casserole, roast, and other assorted goodness. But my skills are limited to 20 dishes at the most. I have even tried watching the Food Network and searching for recipes online, but I also need a real life ...
