Award season is in full swing as the 55th Annual Grammy Awards took place last night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. I didn’t get to catch the full show since I am in Washington, D.C. for Shot@Life (more on that later), but I did get to watch the last hour or so with some pretty fab performances by Maroon 5, Alicia Keys, and Rihanna.

Much was talked about before the Grammy’s about a list of “fashion standards and practices” CBS sent out to the artists and guests attending the ceremony. Because of heavy fines and such by the FCC, CBS seems to be trying to clamp down on how scantily clad an artist can be on live television.

None of that seemed to matter last night as music’s best came out to be honored, entertained, and acknowledged. Winners for the evening included Miguel, Frank Ocean, Rihanna, Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson, and more!

My musical tastes are wide and varied. This is mostly because I grew up in a household that enjoyed listening to music of all genres. My mom and dad were rockers who loved to groove to the rock music of the 70′s and 80′s, but they also enjoyed heavy soul and rhythm and blues. When listening to music, I love songs that have great lyrics, amazing music, and heavy beats. I am a child of hip-hop, a lover of R&B and soul, a groover of jazz, an underground rock n’ roller, with a little country flair. That pretty much describes me!

Currently, I’ve been grooving to my HTC One X+ smartphone that comes with Beats Audio. For those of you who don’t know, Beats Audio is a built-in equalizer that is only available on certain HTC phones, cars, and computers, that allows you hear music the way the artist intended you to hear it. Beats Audio can be preset depending on what type of music you are listening to, to bring out the sound quality of that particular genre of music. It makes for an amazing experience when listening to music on your device, and is one of the reasons why I enjoy the HTC One X+.

The post Listen Up: My HTC One X+ Beats Audio Playlist via #TroopOneX appeared first on The Cubicle Chick.

While I was at CES a few weeks ago, I was invited to the Techlicious #TechTea event at Caesar’s Palace. The event is for technologically savvy moms to learn about new and engaging products that are family friendly and mom-centric. We learned a lot about products from TiVo, Radio Shack, and Beam Technologies, just to name a few. One of the products I couldn’t wait to get my hands on was the Philips Sound Shooter Wireless Portable Speaker, which uses Bluetooth technology so that you can enjoy music anywhere you are. When I saw it, it had me at hello.

Fast forward to this week when the products were sent to us, and low and behold, I got to have a Philips Sound Shooter Wireless Portable Speaker of my very own. I couldn’t wait to open the box and test out the sounds myself.

It was pretty easy to pair the speaker with my phone, and within minutes, I was listening to the sounds of Rihanna, Musiq Soulchild, The Lumineers, and Fun. The sounds quality is amazing! For it to be such a small speaker (it’s 68mm x 81mm and weighs just 0.14 kg), it really packs a punch. And for you bassheads, it serves up pretty of boom for your room!

The Philips Sound Shooter Wireless Portable Speaker charges via USB and can play up to 8 hours on its own. If you don’t want to use Bluethooth, you can hook your phone up with the Aux-in link (where your headphones go) and listen to it that way. The speaker also features echo and noise cancellation and can go up to 33 feet away (with line of site) from your paired device.

It retails for $49.95 and comes in a variety of colors including orange, lime, and blue.

What I most like about this speaker is I can take it with me when I travel. When I’m in the hotel room getting ready or even relaxing, I love listening to music. This little speaker won’t take up too much space in my Digital Debutante backpack, and will give me the ability to get my jam on when I’m on the road.

Say what you want about Tamar “Have Several Seats + Get Your Life” Braxton, the girl is entertaining. After being the “breakout star” on Braxton Family Values, she is embarking out on her on reality show with her music mogul husband, Vince, called Tamar and Vince. The reality show will spotlight Tamar as she tries to make a name for herself as a bonafide singer, and how she and her husband manage to mix business with pleasure while keeping it all in the family.

I have not been a fan of Tamar during her BFV antics, but I can see why she now has her own show. She makes for good television, and her husband seems to mellow her out, so I will probably be watching to see how her singing career and family life pans out on the show.

Tamar and Vince will premiere Thursday, September 20th on We TV at 10/9 CST after the Braxton Family Values finale.

Oprah’s OWN cable outlet has been hitting it out the park with their in-depth celebrity interviews. So far this year, Oprah has tapped huge sit-downs with the likes of Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian and family, Bobbi Kristina, Paris Jackson, and many others. On Sunday, Oprah debuts an exclusive, no holds barred interview with pop princess Rihanna, who gives her unlimited access to her life, her family, and her past relationship with singer, Chris Brown.

This is not the first time Rihanna has publicly discussed her relationship with Brown and their subsequent breakup after he assaulted her before the 2009 Grammy Awards. But this may be her most emotional interview, since she actually gives us insight into how she was feeling directly after the incident.

According to a released snippet of the interview, Rihanna says:

“It became a circus and I felt protective. I felt like the only person they hate right now is him. It was a weird, confusing space to be in because as angry as I was, as angry and hurt and betrayed, I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help. Who’s gonna help him? Nobody’s gonna say he needs help. Everybody’s gonna say he’s a monster without looking at the source. I was more concerned about him.”

I, for one, have been looking forward to this interview, because I know Oprah isn’t afraid of getting to the real questions we all want answers to. Aside from her relationship with Chris, Rihanna also discusses her “bad girl” image and how she deals with rumors and innuendo. I think that an interview with Oprah is a very good look for Rihanna.

Say what you want about Rihanna, there’s not too many singers currently who has achieved the amount of success she has. As far as selling albums and making chart toppers, very few have sold more than she has during the last couple of years.

Oprah’s interview with Rihanna will premiere on her OWN property on Sunday, August 18th at 9pm/8pm CST.

Music has been an important part of my life for as long as I remember. Songs serve as a soundtrack for different phases or “acts” of my life, and it’s these sounds that help me get through the happy times, the sad times, and the times when I need to put in a little pep in my step.

I recently created a playlist of inspirational songs that help fuel me and give me purpose for aiming high and going hard to reach my goals. I thought I would share this soundtrack or playlist with you guys, and maybe you could even give me a few of your selections for songs that inspire you as well so I can add them to mine.

So without further adieu…

1. Golden, Jill Scott: This song is everything to me. Jill’s voice and words and phrasing puts me in a great mood. I feel like I can do anything when I hear this song. And I am continuously living my life like it’s golden. Word to Jilly from Philly.

2. Walking, Mary Mary: Mary Mary has been one of my favorite groups for some time, and their song Walking gets heavy rotation on my iPod because it makes me feel happy and free. Love these girls, and love this song.

3. I’m Every Woman, Whitney Houston: Many of you know I love me some Chaka Khan, but when it comes to I’m Every Woman, I have to say I prefer Whitney’s version. The totally club/house feel (produced by C + C Music Factory—’memba them?) instantly gets me rocking my body and feeling unstoppable.

4. Make it Happen, Mariah Carey: As a fan (and an unabashed “lamb”), Mariah is one of my favorite artists. But her 1991 hit “Make it Happen” really personifies Mariah and why she is one of my favorites. She sings of living in poverty while working towards her dream, and it’s this “vision” that propels me to go hard or go home.

5. Good Life, OneRepublic: That beat, that chorus, the words. Yes, Good Life is an ode to living a fantastic life full of..well… life. Living to your fullest is something we all should be doing. Love this song!

6. Marry the Night, Lady Gaga: I can honestly say I’ve listened to this song 10 times once on repeat. It’s so catchy, so driven, and so personifies my life and how I am living it now.

7. Open My Heart, Yolanda Adams: When it comes to my spirituality and my faith, this song says it all. It was like it was written just for me. About me.

8.  Lose Yourself, Eminem: From the 8 Mile soundtrack, this song always gets me pumped.

9. Forever, Chris Brown: Say what you want about Chris Brown, the chart topper Forever, is one of the best songs of the millennium era. Catchy, full of promise, and melodic, it makes me feel “light” and happy every time I hear it.

10. Halo, Beyonce: This song has so many meanings for me. But mostly, it’s about the power of loving someone, and the power of someone that loves you that makes it all worthwhile.

The post 10 Songs That Inspire Me appeared first on The Cubicle Chick.

I am a HUGE Chaka Khan fan and have been since I was a little girl. My parents were really into music so I grew up listening to so many different types of sounds. Rufus and Chaka Khan were always in heavy rotation on my mom’s record player. Tell Me Something Good, Sweet Thing, and I’m Every Woman were tunes that I would two-step to while my mom would play it during our Saturday cleaning house activities. Chaka was (and still is) a part of my life, musically!

So when I saw her a few weeks ago in some pictures that surfaced online, my jaw dropped. Chaka had battled drug abuse in recent years and was a little heavier than she used to be. But girlfriend was looking flawless and super svelte. My jaw dropped. She looked like she had dropped major weight.

And when more pictures were showcased on her Facebook page of her on the red carpet at an event as well as during her performance on the American Idol finale, I instantly looked at my stomach and sucked it in. Chaka, at age 59, is killin’ em! She’s making my 36 year old tail look geriatric.

Chaka, what is your weight loss secret, girl?

With all of these celebrities making major dough with weight loss campaigns (see Mariah with Jenny, Jennifer Hudson with Weight Watchers, and Janet with Nutri System), I’m wondering why someone hasn’t tapped Chaka, who is obviously doing something right.

The last few weeks has been a little un-epic with my weight loss, but seeing Chaka is making me step up my game and get back on the ball.
