This year, we wanted to start the school year off with a new style. My daughter has natural unprocessed hair, and it was time for her to get it trimmed and styled. So me and her hair stylist (who happens to be my cousin), came up with a unique style that is both fun and fabulous. ...

First off, I want to apologize for posting these photos of Viola Davis so late. Sometimes when I travel, I am not able to update my site on a regular basis. Even though I am a day late and a dollar short, I wanted to post these pictures and share them with you because they are so freaking awesome! ...

TweetAs many of you know, I am in the midst of transitioning my hair to a natural state. Right now, my hair is almost half and half and there are times when I want to flatten or straighten out the root in order to wear a chignon or a smoother style. Not wanting to apply too much heat on my hair in only a limited area, I usually bypass those styles but now I don’t have to. The EdgeStick professional styling comb is a ceramic device with small teeth that can straighten or smooth down edges or small sections of hair. Because of its small size, it virtually eliminates burns. There is a neat digital temperature control on the unit and is designed for all hair types and textures. Because of its small comb like teeth, it can grasp hair in small sections and straighten them to a smooth finish. ...

TweetMy 6 year old has a lot of hair. This summer, I have been keeping her natural hair curly for the most part. She has tight curls that look nice with a little bit of product on it. But for the new school year, she wanted to jazz it up a little and we decided to get it professionally straightened by a stylist. No chemicals of course. Just a flat iron and a stylist that knows how to get it straight without too much heat or damage. The result was simply gorgeous. My 6 yr old is going back to school with a new look! I visited Salon Edge in the heart of Midtown St. Louis near St. Louis University and Grand Center. Our stylist, Sandra Dee, specializes in natural hair and had a knack for working with my 6 yr old’s tender head. Here is the finished product: ...

TweetI have come to get to know Glamazini aka ‘Rini, who you’ve seen mentioned on here many times (she recently wrote THIS guest blog post on TCC) through social networking. We both live in the same city and love being fabulous—make-up, nail colors, clothes and shoes, we love it all. Hair is another bond in which we share. Glamazini is a natural hair enthusiast and has been blogging about her natural hair journey for over ten years! I recently returned the favor of her guesting on my blog by writing a guest post on her blog about my own natural hair journey, which has had its share of peaks and valleys. Check out my guest blog post on her blog HERE, and leave a comment. I would be so thankful! And always….stay fabulous! ...

TweetHonestly when The Cubicle Chick asked me to do a guest post about the five products that had changed (revolutionized) my life, I could only think of 1 off the top of my head: shea. butter. Wait, let me start from the beginning, where are my manners? Hi everyone, my name is Roshini a.k.a. ini a.k.a. Glamazini and I author a blog and produce YouTube videos about my natural hair journey [ini curtsies]. I’ve been natural for 8 years and counting (with a couple failed attempts prior to it sticking) and have had a website/blog for the same length of time … about … my hair. So as you can see, I’ve had ample time to try a LOT of products and can freely admit now (after years of therapy & light medication) that I am a fully recovered “product junkie”. So with no further adieu [cue triumphant music] here ...

TweetI was reading my dear friend Glamazini’s blog and she had a post about “The silliest thing I’ve ever done to my head was…” and it got me to thinking. There are many things that I have done in my life that I’ve looked back on and said why in the hell did I do that? So thanks to my friend, I came up with a twist on her concept called “The Worst _________ I’ve Ever Had”. It will be an ongoing series on TCC in which I will discuss the worst (whatever I come up with) for that we and then you all can comment and share! This week, we are going to talk about “The Worst Beauty Decisions” I’ve Ever Had. As you know, I am a Cubicle Chick who likes to look fab so I have had my share of beauty faux pas in my past. Let ...

TweetSay what you want about Solange Knowles. She is a very sassy and opinionated sister who’s no-holds barred approach to her career has made a few people wince. But of course, that is okay because most Cubicle Chicks know that you can’t please everyone, nor should you try. Solange has built her whole career trying NOT to stand in the shadows of her older sister, Beyonce, who is the biggest female entertainer in the hemisphere right now. Despite that, though, the two remain a close pair, and Beyonce is often seen with Solo’s son, Daniel Juelz. Solange is a Cubicle Chick because not only is she a mother, songwriter, actress, entertainer, and now DJ, she remains true to herself and her vision of how she wants to be perceived. She doesn’t march the the same beat as everyone else, and her playful style can make even the most envious hater ...

TweetAs I have blogged endlessly HERE and HERE about my 6 yr old’s hair woes, her hair is not very easy to tame. Her thick, curly, tresses are a handful and I do my best with the tools and products I have been referred. Creme of Nature’s line has come in handy lately, especially when I am preparing to straighten her hair. My daughter was participating in a photo shoot, and she was required to have ponytails. I washed and conditioned her hair with Creme of Nature’s Sunflower & Coconut Detangling Conditioning Shampoo and Chamomile & Comfrey Nourishing Conditioner with certified organic ingredients. I left the conditioner on for fifteen minutes with a plastic cap, and followed with Creme of Nature’s Red Clover and Aloe Daily Breakage Relief cream and allowed it to air dry. The finished product was well conditioned hair that was soft, manageable, and healthy. Creme of ...

TweetWritten By: Tanjioy, TheCubicleChick.com Contributor A lot of women are currently wearing relaxers or other types of chemicals in their hair, but are seeking to become natural due to hair breakage, alopecia, and just the overall upkeep of hair styles. I have been natural for 2 years and 3 months and it has been quite the journey. Some women may think it is an easy transition, but it isn’t. Our hair comes in many different shades, types, curl patterns, etc. so what may work for you, may not work on the next woman. Do’s: Have patience: Please do not stress out because you have 2/3 different textures going on at one time. It takes a while before you will find the appropriate style to compliment your textures. Consult with a natural hairstylist: If you don’t have any experience with doing your own hair, please have a consultation w/ a professional ...

TweetI have been a fan of Creme of Nature since I was a little girl. My mother used to use it on my hair, so when I began doing my own hair, I quickly adopted this beauty staple as my own. No matter if your hair is curly, natural, or relaxed, Creme of Nature has a product to fit your needs. A few weeks ago, I was invited by Creme of Nature to join in a webinar to help introduce their new advertising campaign called ‘I Love Creme of Nature’. It’s a virtual CON Love Fest for 2010! The campaign began showing up this month in different magazines with advertisements featuring bloggers, hair professionals, and everyday women who use Creme of Nature. CON has also launched an agressive digital launch on the Internet. You can find Creme of Nature just about everywhere on the web including Twitter, Facebook, Beauty blog, ...

TweetI read so much online about natural hair. I am actually going through a transition phase myself from relaxer to natural, so I have really been studying up on how to keep and nurture a natural mane. My daughter Laylah has very curly hair which is thick and course. Tonight, I washed her hair with Creme of Nature Professional Ultra Moisturizing Shampoo Kiwi and Citrus. Here are the fantabulous results: ...

TweetWith the release of Chris Rock’s ‘Good Hair’, the web and blogosphere have been inundated with posts and comments about OUR hair; whether it should be natural or processed, curly or straight, real or fake. I get it. Personally, I feel that a person should wear their hair the way they choose to. If a woman decides to wear her hair naturally, it doesn’t make her any better than if a woman decides to chemically treat her hair and vice versa. It’s a preference, whatever works for you. I can only discuss my hair journey, which has been riddled with many changes, styles, colors, etc. Our hair can do so many things! Last year, I decided to go natural. There wasn’t anything that facilitated this change, I just wanted something different. While growing out my relaxed ends, I decided to get a sew in weave in so that my hair ...

TweetHow many times have you been in the office and someone approaches you and blatanatly asks with a straight face, “How did you get your hair to do that?”  or something to that effect? Usually this is a question that comes from a person who has no idea the wonders that “our” hair can do, the creativeness that stems from the root, or the versatility that being of BrownSkin provides. I personally don’t think that the individual who asks these types of questions have racist intentions because there are plenty of times that our own race whom are the culprit. Sometimes it is us who are misguided by the misnomer that straight hair is the only beauty there is. Society will have you believing that the straight flow is the way to go, but we know better.  We understand that our hair is another form of expression and we can ...
