NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice New Season: American Idols, Models & Reality Stars

Hate him or love him, The Donald creates interesting television. Last season's Celebrity Apprentice experienced great ratings, thanks to the antics of a well cast set of contestants. And if this new season is anything like the last, it will be must see TV. Here is the line-up of contestants: Clay Aiken, singer and American Idol runner-up Arsenio Hall, TV personality Debbie (Deborah) Gibson, teen singer, Broadway actress Tia Carrere, actress Aubrey O'Day, singer, reality TV star, Making the Band Victoria Gotti, author, daughter of Mob Boss John Gotti, reality TV star, Growing Up Gotti Adam Carolla, comedian Dee Snider, singer Lisa Lampenelli, comedienne Lou Ferrigno, actor George Takei, actor Cheryl Teigs, actress, former model Penn Jillette, comedian Teresa Guidice, reality TV star, Real Housewives of New Jersey Patricia Velasquez, model Michael Andretti, IndyCar team owner Dayana Mendoza, Miss Universe 2008 Paul Teutul, reality star, American Choppers As you can see, this season's cast is an interesting one, but I will say that it's missing some spunk. I notice there aren't any women of color this season---maybe it was because the Dionne, La Toya, Star, and Ne Ne quartet was a little too much for the show to handle. While I am not a fan of Donald Trump's political aspirations (or his Birther stance), Celebrity Apprentice is one of my favorite shows. It is always interesting to see these "stars" in another light as it pertains to business and how they handle themselves in sometimes "pressure" type situations. The new season of Celebrity Apprentice begins Sunday, February 12. You gonna watch?

Project Runway: All Stars Premieres January 5th on Lifetime

Are you ready? If you are like me and can't get enough of Project Runway, then you are in for a treat. Because the shows past All Stars are back, honey, and it's going to be FIERCE. These All Stars may not have won the fashion competition, but they brought it enough to achieve cult-like adoration status. Bringing them back to compete on a show like Project Runway is ratings gold. Let it sizzle, let it shine! The line-up of All Stars are as follows: Anthony Williams, Season 7 Austin Scarlett, Season 2 Elisa Jeminez. Season 4 Rami Kashou, Season 4 Sweet P, Season 4 Jerrell Scott, Season 5 Kenley Collins, Season 5 Gordana Gehlhausen, Season 6 Mila Hermanovski, Season 7 April Johnston, Season 8 Michael Costello, Season 8 Mondo Guerra, Season 8 Project Runway: All Stars also boasts new judges; fashion designers Isaac Mizrahi and Georgina Chapman. Model Angela Lindvall serves as host and Marie Claire's Joanna Coles will act as mentor to the All Stars. While I love everything that is Project Runway, my favorite contestant ever in life, Anthony Williams, will get the opportunity to once again slay us with his personality and his talent. Anthony has been acting as a stylist since he lost on Project Runway, but he is returning again to claim it. Kourtney Kardashian is Pregnant Again: And You Care

Ah, the Family Kardashians are back in the news again. This time, it's the eldest daughter of the K clan that is making the headlines. Yesterday, Kourtney announced that she is nine weeks pregnant with her second child and will be giving birth next year. Kourt is once again having a baby with on-and-off boyfriend Scott Disick, whom is also the father of Kourtney's two year old son Mason. The internets were abuzz about this new factoid because of all of the recent fodder surrounding sister Kim's 72 day marriage to basketball player, Kris Humphries.

"Scott and I are so excited to announce that we are expecting our second child and are thrilled to be expanding the love in our family."

Coincidentally, Kourtney and Kim's new season of Kourtney and Kim Take New York debuted on E! this past Sunday. We all know how media savvy mom Kris Jenner is as she seems to show opportunistic tendencies where her kids are concerned. Another child entering the family fold means more ratings, more interviews, more money. And it also takes some of the heat off of Kim and her so-called sham mega millions wedding and pending divorce. Of course the Kardashians would have you to believe that this wasn't planned nor orchestrated, and they haven't even discussed Kourtney's pregnancy in regards to how it could improve the family's image. The public has grown weary of this family, but it's hard to diss a pregnant woman and her baby---unless you are Beyonce of course. And while I am happy for Kourtney (she is my favorite Kardashian behind Khloe), I can't help but wonder how Kris is going to spin this into a win/win for her business, oops, family. Kris' management of the sisters is nothing short of remarkable, as she has spun a bad sex tape into a billion dollar family industry. Did I mention that Kourt also has a new mommy blog that, you guessed it, debuted yesterday as well? Can you say ca-ching? We all like to say that we hate the Kardashians, but inside, we do care. Yes, we do care! In more quieter news, it has been reported that Kim's jilted groom, Kris, is pushing for the courts to grant him an annulment and not a divorce, on grounds that she fraudulently got him to marry her. I guess we will have to wait to see how that all plays out. What do you think of the latest Kardashian announcement?

WE’s Reality Hit Braxton Family Values Returns to TV 11/10

I was skeptical when I first tuned in to WE's Braxton Family Values earlier this year, a reality TV show focusing on Grammy award winner Toni Braxton and her four sisters, Tamar, Traci, Towanda, Trina, and the family matriarch Evelyn (or "Mommy"). But soon, I realized that these sisters are pretty entertaining, especially the youngest sister Tamar, whose dot com and dot org analogies will keep you in stitches. She so wants to be a star and grab the spotlight from eldest sister, Toni, but her over the top dramatics and poor attitude keep her from doing it big. Not to worry, though. Her husband, record mogul, Vince Herbert laces her with the finest money can buy. So all is not lost. The girls, with their dysfunctional relationships, weave and wig changes, and heavily rouged cheeks, make the Kardashian sisters look BORING and stale. Where the Kardashian sisters are contrived and overexposed, the Braxton sisters keep it real (or as real as the editors and cameras will show you) and they have talent. When they come together and sing, they sound really good. I am looking forward to this season. It will be interesting to see Toni transition to being single again after her move to Los Angeles, and of course, Tamar is going to bring the heat with her one-liners. Hopefully sister Towanda was able to leave her deadbeat husband and Trina has put down the bottle. She was one drink away from being a lush! Are You Ready? New Season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta Begins 11/6

I have a love/hate relationship with the Real Housewives of Atlanta. On one hand, I love the drama and comedy that ensues when the girls get together. It is a very entertaining show and perhaps is my favorite of all of the Real Housewives shows. On the other hand, the same drama that occurs makes it sometimes hard to watch, and I find myself shaking my head at the train wreck that seems to happen on each episode. I must admit---I have missed the ladies of RHOA and I am very excited that the new season is almost here. I didn't start watching RHOA until the second season, and it's because of Twitter that I even watched it in the first place. All of the tweets and show recaps made me want to check out the show and see what it was all about. And now that it is going into it's fourth season, I am looking forward to seeing what NeNe, Kim, Sheree, Phaedra, Kandi, and Cynthia have been up to (new edition Marlo Hampton, I hear, will only be seen in a few shows and hasn't been officially added to the cast). As a Black woman, I am constantly reminded that shows like Real Housewives of Atlanta doesn't always show us in the best of light, and we are sometimes pegged negatively, either due to the editing process or antics resulting from the cast members' "delusions of grandeur". But I also understand that the show is for entertainment purposes only, and doesn't in any way mean that we behave in the way these women act on the show. I am sure we are in store for a lot this season. According to the trailer, Phaedra is getting into the funeral home business, NeNe is moving on from her "separation from Greg", Kandi is expanding her moguldom with a sex toy line, Cynthia is getting adjusted to married life, Kim is a new mom, and Sheree, well, I have no idea, but I am sure she plans to bring it during the season. The new season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta premieres on Sunday, November 6th on Bravo. I am planning a Season Premiere watch party with my friend, Robyn, who also loves the show! Celebrity Stylist June Ambrose Gets Show on VH1

Celebrity stylist June Ambrose is mostly known for being a stylist to the stars---Jay-Z, Sean Combs, Alicia Keys, and Kim Cattrall have all been dressed by the fabulous June. Being the go-to stylist that everyone wants to use is no easy feat, and now, June is embarking on a new venture with a VH1 reality program tentatively entitled "The June Ambrose Project". According to the press release:

In "The June Ambrose Project", June and her team of tireless assistants will take on a mix of up-and-coming and established celebrity clients some actors, some musicians -- who would like to re-imagine their looks and brands. Each episode will chronicle an image makeover and overall rebranding, culminating in a visually stunning event designed to focus on the celebrity's new look.

The show will feature makeovers as well as a look into the life of June Ambrose---how she juggles work and family while maintaining her star status and manages an elite list of star clientele. "The June Ambrose Project" is set to premiere early next year. As someone who loves fashion as well as reality programming, I am going to be tuned in to see June in action. Will you be watching June's show on VH1?

New Season & Cast of Dancing with the Stars: Will You Watch?

When it comes to reality show competitions, I am usually game. I have been watching Dancing with the Stars off and on since its first season in the U.S. and more often than not, it's a pretty good show. After the attention whores and wanna-be relavants get the boot, it truly becomes a dancing competition, each star surprising me with their grace and moves. I fell in love with Kirstie Alley last season when she transformed herself and became the one to watch, dancing and shimmying better than some of her younger counterparts. Earlier this week, the new cast of DWTS was announced and the opinion has been mixed. Most of the attention has been focused on Chaz Bono, Cher's daughter-turned-son who has opted to be declared as a male because ~~she doesn't want to be identified as a female~~ (and has went through great lengths to change her sex). Chaz' journey to manhood has been documented in a film called Becoming Chaz and will be dancing this season on DWTS with a female partner, Lacey Schwimmer. Hate mail has been sent to ABC for allowing Chaz to be on the show as a "man", and some are threatening boycotting the show. Womp womp. DWTS is no stranger to controversy, and I believe they intentionally add stars to the list who will spark "unwanted" attention. They did this with adding Bristol Palin to the cast 2 seasons ago as well as Kate Gosselin, who last year, received flak for spending hours practicing instead of taking care of her brood. Controversy always bring ratings---even when people say they aren't going to watch, they usually do. Despite the negativity, though, this season of DWTS is shaping up to be interesting, to say the least. This season's cast includes: Nancy Grace- Talk show host, former prosecutor Ron Artest- Forward for the LA Lakers Ricki Lake- Actress, former talk show host, home child birth advocate Chaz Bono- Cher's son (daughter) Chyna Phillips- former lead singer of Wilson Phillips Hope Solo- U.S. women's soccer player David Arquette- Actor, ex hubby of Courtney Cox Rob Kardashian- Brother of Kim et al Kardashian Kristin Cavallvari- reality star, former star on Laguna Beach J.R. Martinez- All My Children's Brot Monroe Carson Kressley- Former Queer Eye for the Straight Guy Elisabetta Canalis- an ex of George Clooney The new season of DWTS premieres on Monday, Sept. 19th 8 EST, 7 CST. Project Runway Season 9 Premieres 7/28: I’m Sew Anxious!

Reality TV competitions are my bag---I love the competitive spirit and the creativeness that ensues. Project Runway is a program that seems to impress me each season with its flair for picking up-and-coming fashion designers who otherwise may not be known. The drama, the cutthroat action, and the heartbreak are sometimes too much for me; but the end result of the fabulous and glam frocks that are created make for great television. Project Runway begins its 9th season with model Heidi Klum and host Tim Gunn, showing once again why fashion is an art. The new season also holds the return of "Project Runway Allstars", which will air in one hour episodes.The franchise will also introduce "Project Accessory" which will display the hottest and most fabulous accessory designers on its program. Fans can also vote all season long on their Season 9 Fan Favorite by tweeting their designers #hashtag on Twitter. I am not sure if anyone can top my love of Anthony Williams from Season 7 Project Runway (watch my video interview of him HERE), but I will keep an open mind while watching this season. I usually do not agree with the judge's panel's decision of who gets cut, but we will see if that changes this year. Why am I being judged for watching Basketball Wives?

Last Monday evening while at Target with my son, I noticed that I wasn't going to be home in time to watch one of my guilty pleasures on television, 'Basketball Wives'. I instantly tweeted my pain of missing the dramatic "reality" program, and I received a bevy of replies. Most of them dealt with the disappointment some felt regarding the fact that I watched such a shameful show. I began to wonder why I was being judged for watching a television show that was created for entertainment purposes. 'Basketball Wives' follows several women, most of whom are not wives but girlfriends or exes of former or lesser known basketball stars. The women are catty, ill tempered, raw, and sometimes, out of pocket. They fight with one another, throw drinks at each other, curse, kick, and claw each chance they get. The ratchetness that takes place on the show between Royce, Evelyn, Jennifer, Tami, Susie, Meeka while being puppeteered by show producer Shaunie O'Neal, is a little much at times. But after a long day or bringing home the bacon and frying it in the pan, the entertainment value I find in the program is enough to keep me watching. Judging me for watching 'Basketball Wives' is really misplaced when you think about it, and highly unfounded. There are those who like horror movies; does that mean they want to kill others and chop them up into little pieces? There are those who like to listen to Lil Wayne, but does that one does everything he says in his music? NO. So just because I watch 'Basketball Wives' doesn't mean I am a ratchet and bitter ex wife looking to get paid. Unless you are going to pay my cable bill, I have the freedom to watch whatever I please. I know the difference between fact and fiction---and I don't believe everything I see on television is indeed the truth. The purpose of a show like this is for the ladies to cut a fool and ham it up as much as possible (or they will get cut from the show for being too boring) so there isn't much reality I am seeing. There are also those naysayers that say that shows like 'Basketball Wives' make black women look bad, and I would have to say that there is some truth to that. For those people who believe everything they see on television and attribute it to others without going out of their way to see firsthand for themselves, then yes, it probably isn't a good look. But people that are like that already have their preconceived notions anyway about how black women act and conduct themselves anyway based on past experiences. Hopefully, if one takes a unbiased look at black women as a whole, they won't rely on television or other media to shape their opinions. So yes, I watch 'Basketball Wives' and I don't see anything wrong with it. If you don't like the show, then I totally understand. But don't down those of us who do. Thoughts?

Let me start this post off by saying I love some Tanika Ray. She first caught my attention as the host 'Head to Toe' in 2003, and since then, has been a breath of fresh air on television. She's always full of energy, vibrant, and always looks fabulous. I have also fallen in love with her hair and its fullness of curly q's, never perfect but always looking like perfection. Tanika has definitely been one of my BFF's in my head for sometime now, and I was elated when I found out I would get the opportunity to speak with her about her new show HGTV'd. 'HGTV'd' is HGTV's newest reality program in which an HGTV star surprises a viewer with "jaw-dropping makeovers and over-the-top transformations" that are indeed fun and fabulous. The homeowners leave their digs for several days and come back to a surprise of a lifetime---and no expense is spared. Tanika said she couldn't discuss the budget for the show, but said that Scripps (the company that owns HGTV) put a lot of money into the program to make is a "dream come true" type of experience for all of the participants. When I asked Tanika about why she wanted to participate in a show such as this, she said it was a no-brainer. "I've decorated my own space, I didn't hire someone else to do it, and I enjoy being creative in my own space. It was only natural for me to want to get involved in this type of show and with this network. I auditioned, but I told them, 'you already have your girl--I'm here'." According to the press releases and material I've read about HGTV'd, the transformations will be epic. I cannot wait to see how HGTV stars take a space and make it into a well-designed gem. And I would be remiss if I didn't ask Tanika a question about her hair, which many of requested I query her for her hair secrets. "I don’t know how I’ve become a hair icon. There’s no secret (to my hair), I was born with strange hair. My mom never knew what to do with it. It's always had a mind of its own. It's always been wild and this way and that way so I just kinda let it do what it does." Lucky her, right?
