When I tell you the feeling of seeing your child reach a major milestone in their life is unparallelled. My 18 year old manchild is now a high school graduate and I am so proud of him. He will be going to college soon, and I don't know what I am going to do without my baby. ...

I have been self reflecting the last few weeks. With my son graduating from high school and moving on to adulthood, I have been looking back on my life up to this point. I've made some decisions that have affected me for the good and the bad. When you are young, you think you have the world by a string, and everything is going to come up roses. ...

TweetI am all about teaching my two kids the value of money. My 16 year old is being taught valuable lessons about money because he will soon be an adult and I do not want him to make the same mistakes I did when I was younger. As much as I try to tell him about saving money (he has a savings account), he is always tempted to spend more than he puts away. It is a constant struggle, but just because it is hard doesn’t mean that I am going to stop trying to instill lessons as it pertains to money, saving, and spending. TweetIn just a few days, my sixteen year old will be officially done with his Sophomore year in high school and will begin his summer break. My son has a tendency to like the finer things in life, if you know what I mean: Macbooks, iPods, gear from Hollister, etc. And now that I am between working assignments, money is tight! Last night, we discussed his options and we both agreed that it is time for him to get a summer job. I got my first job when I was fifteen or sixteen, working at the layaway at K-mart in Florida. It was a cool job. I got paid every week, which was great for me, and the hours fit into my school schedule. I pretty much could do whatever I wanted with my paycheck, and it was a good feeling to pay for my own wants and desires without ...

TweetThis is a really sticky topic, I have recently found out. While speaking to a friend of mine about our teens, the issue of privacy came up. My friend told me that because of past incidents with her son who is now eighteen and a senior in high school, she screens all of his phone calls on his cellphone, reads all of his emails (they are forwarded to her email account without his knowledge) and eavesdrops on conversations with his friends when he is not looking. I found this behavior disturbing. I do feel that children need guidance of course and protection from the evils of the world. There are some scary people out there who want to do harm to children. But at the same time, I feel in order for me to grow a successful and well adjusted adult, I need to let my 15 year old make ...
