Being the go-to stylist that everyone wants to use is no easy feat, and now, June is embarking on a new venture with a VH1 reality program tentatively entitled “The June Ambrose Project”.

According to the press release:

In “The June Ambrose Project”, June and her team of tireless assistants will
take on a mix of up-and-coming and established celebrity clients some
actors, some musicians — who would like to re-imagine their looks and
brands. Each episode will chronicle an image makeover and overall
rebranding, culminating in a visually stunning event designed to focus on
the celebrity’s new look.

The show will feature makeovers as well as a look into the life of June Ambrose—how she juggles work and family while maintaining her star status and manages an elite list of star clientele.

“The June Ambrose Project” is set to premiere early next year. As someone who loves fashion as well as reality programming, I am going to be tuned in to see June in action.

Will you be watching June’s show on VH1?

While the video plays, little bubbles of “information” about the artist, video, or topics in he video pop up on the screen, giving you a new viewpoint of the video. What was most fabulous about the program is A, it actually showed videos and B, the tid-bits of info that popped up really were interesting and entertaining. It was one of my favorite shows as a teen.

VH1 understands that they had an awesome program on their hands and are revitalizing the show and bringing it back much to my approval. Pop Up Video returns to the boob tube in October. And with all of the reality TV foolishness, Pop Up is a sight for sore eyes. YAY!

I am so looking forward to seeing the silly videos with the pop up commentary. Hell, do people even watch videos anymore? It’s so ironic that the networks MTV (Music Television) and VH1 (Video Hits 1) rarely show videos. I am elated that VH1 is taking it back to the old school and to the basics.

VH1 has ordered 60 new episodes of Pop Up Video, which will begin airing in the afternoons starting 10/3 with episodes back-to-back at 12/11 CST and 12:30/11:30 EST. They will bring back the old school pop up bubble scheme throughout the vids along with “user generated pop up content and updated polls in its bubbles”. (per Entertainment Weekly)

Get those DVR’s set!

I instantly tweeted my pain of missing the dramatic “reality” program, and I received a bevy of replies. Most of them dealt with the disappointment some felt regarding the fact that I watched such a shameful show. I began to wonder why I was being judged for watching a television show that was created for entertainment purposes.

‘Basketball Wives’ follows several women, most of whom are not wives but girlfriends or exes of former or lesser known basketball stars. The women are catty, ill tempered, raw, and sometimes, out of pocket. They fight with one another, throw drinks at each other, curse, kick, and claw each chance they get. The ratchetness that takes place on the show between Royce, Evelyn, Jennifer, Tami, Susie, Meeka while being puppeteered by show producer Shaunie O’Neal, is a little much at times. But after a long day or bringing home the bacon and frying it in the pan, the entertainment value I find in the program is enough to keep me watching.

Judging me for watching ‘Basketball Wives’ is really misplaced when you think about it, and highly unfounded. There are those who like horror movies; does that mean they want to kill others and chop them up into little pieces? There are those who like to listen to Lil Wayne, but does that one does everything he says in his music? NO. So just because I watch ‘Basketball Wives’ doesn’t mean I am a ratchet and bitter ex wife looking to get paid. Unless you are going to pay my cable bill, I have the freedom to watch whatever I please.

I know the difference between fact and fiction—and I don’t believe everything I see on television is indeed the truth. The purpose of a show like this is for the ladies to cut a fool and ham it up as much as possible (or they will get cut from the show for being too boring) so there isn’t much reality I am seeing.

There are also those naysayers that say that shows like ‘Basketball Wives’ make black women look bad, and I would have to say that there is some truth to that. For those people who believe everything they see on television and attribute it to others without going out of their way to see firsthand for themselves, then yes, it probably isn’t a good look. But people that are like that already have their preconceived notions anyway about how black women act and conduct themselves anyway based on past experiences. Hopefully, if one takes a unbiased look at black women as a whole, they won’t rely on television or other media to shape their opinions.

So yes, I watch ‘Basketball Wives’ and I don’t see anything wrong with it. If you don’t like the show, then I totally understand. But don’t down those of us who do.

Thoughts?

Actress Taraji P. Henson has proved that she is a hard worker in front of the camera, and behind the scenes, she is a sassy fabulous chick who manages to raise her child and juggle a life in the Hollywood spotlight. Many of us came to know Taraji when she starred opposite Tyrese Gibson in John Singleton’s movie ‘Baby Boy’. She stole the show in ‘Hustle and Flow’ and was nominated for an Oscar for her pivotal role in ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’.

Taraji has proved that just because you are mother doesn’t mean that you have to lose your groove. I love it!

Here are a few flicks of Taraji strutting her stuff on the red carpet during the VH1 2010 Hip Hop Honors at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. I am totally feeling the hair and the dress!

Yes, I am a glutton for punishment where reality television is concerned. Anyway, if you don’t know what Celebrity Fit Club is, its when former celebs or D List E List stars who are a little or a lot overweight form teams to lose weight, and are guided by experts who show them how to lose weight while being healthy. They have intensive physical training, weigh ins, and also counseling sessions to help them with their problems, both food and non food related.

This season features Kevin Federline, Britney Spears’ ex husband, R&B bad boy Bobby Brown, rocker Sebastian Bach, former Baywatch beauty Nicole Eggert, Moesha star (and Kevin Federline’s ex) Shar Jackson, and others. I thought it was a great ratings ploy on VH1′s behalf to have both Shar and Kevin on the same show; we’ve all heard about the tabloid fodder that surrounded their break-up. Supposedly Kevin left Shar while she was pregnant with their second child to go live outrageously with pop chanteuse Britney Spears, who he later married and had two children.

We all thought the same thing: poor Shar.

But in tonight’s episode, I see that there is no need for anyone to feel guilty about Shar Jackson. I feel more sorry for her than anything. And it seems as if she hasn’t seemed to have moved on from her past. In one scene, she sits and cries about having to pick up the pieces after Kevin left. And while she says she no longer has feelings, the psychologist sees that there are signs she is still not over Kevin. I could understand if this was a recent break-up. But it’s been almost five years!

It is time to move on girl. He isn’t thinking about you!

This is something that really gets my goat. Women, we must allow ourselves to heal. We must allow ourselves to move on. Move forward. Be productive. To sit and wallow about a man who obviously doesn’t care about you in THAT way is not only pathetic, it is just plain old sad. I refuse to sit motionless for years thinking of coulda, shoulda, woulda, when I could be working on my next plan for world domination. Love hurts. And it sucks too. But when do you say enough is enough?!

Don’t be like Shar Jackson. Love doesn’t always work. I can dig that. And that hurts. A lot. I’ve been there and done that. But you also have to allow yourself to move on and prepare for a relationship that will work and prosper. Don’t do yourself a disservice by not moving on.

Did you see Celebrity Fit Club? What do you think of the whole Kevin Federline/Shar Jackson saga? Let me know your thoughts.
