I know what you are thinking—Snickers and M&M’s aren’t necessarily “healthy” food choices. I felt the same way upon reading about the MARS Brand launch of their healthy living website.
If you are a connoisseur of Snickers and M&Ms, then you are familiar with the MARS chocolate brand. Known for chocolate goodness and good quality, MARS is one of the leading brands of candies on the market. But with the importance of eating healthier and watching calories as well as living a cleaner, more green environment, MARS has stepped up to the plate to offer an online portal designed to help its consumers learn about the MARS brand in terms of health.
The site gives nutritional information about their products as well as tips on how you can eat and live a healthier lifestyle. It also features a Cool Tool list you can use to help your healthy living progress and suggestions for keeping track of your food intake via a Calorie Club.
According to MARS Brands:
Mars’ is committed to providing high quality snack food products that can be enjoyed as part of a balanced lifestyle, without compromising on taste. We do this by focusing on three primary focus areas: Information, Responsibility and Innovation.
What do I think of this MARS Brand healthy information portal?
I think it’s a wise choice for MARS and their new media team to focus on health. They are showing that they care about the well being of their consumers and customers. I also appreciate that the website is easy to use, appealing to the eye, and features an array of multicultural images that reflect our worldwide population.
The only problem I see is how do they reconcile their products, which are not considered healthy, into a supposedly healthy routine? I believe with honest information, and a leaning towards these types of treats being a once-in-a-while indulgence instead of an everyday, need a snack, eat Snickers pitch, it could be a good thing.
The MARS Brand advertising campaign consists of Internet banners on websites and via advertising agents like Google Ads. You will see these ads appear on sites/topics that are about healthy eating and living information and options.
MARS Brands also owns Uncle Ben’s, Dove, Skittles, Doublemint, and Orbit. It also owns a pet care conglomerate with Pedigree and Whiskas.
