‘Tis the Season: 5 Ways You Can Give Back This Holiday Season

The turkey hasn’t even been served yet, but the official holiday season is now in full gear. Amongst all of the shopping and eating and spending money, we should also be thinking of those who are less fortunate than we are. Giving back should not be done just during the holiday season, but all year around. During this time of family and sharing, we need to make sure we are giving back to our community and world in which we live in.

Here are 5 ways you can give back during the holiday season:

Give

Find an organization or two and donate money to them. Even if it is $20 or $200, your contribution is a gift that the organization could use to help others. Set aside a set amount of money during the holidays and donate it to your favorite organization or charity.

Donate

Go through your clothes and items that you do not use and gather them up and donate them to the Salvation Army, Goodwill, or other charitable outfit. Your donations would be greatly appreciated and may can be written off as a charitable donation on your taxes.

Volunteer

Select an organization you have an affinity for and volunteer your time. If you do not have money or items to give, your time is just as important. Most organizations have volunteer programs that you can give as much of your time as possible.

Social Network

Follow your favorite non-profit organizations online and spread their word and messages by sharing their links and retweeting their information. Your participation and partnership with these organizations goes a long way when you share it amongst your networks. Get involved!

Throw an Event

If you have a favorite non-profit organization and have time, you can hold an event for them to raise awareness and other needed items. I did this when I held an Harvest Day Supply Drive at Haven House earlier this month, and it didn’t take a lot of time and effort. Just a great idea and help from my friends and others in the community. Giving back is something that makes me feel good!

Those are 5 ways you can give back this holiday season. You aren’t limited to these suggestions however—get involved any way you can!
