February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partn February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partnered with @MedIQCME and Duke Health to raise awareness about atrial fibrillation (AFib), also known as irregular heartbeat which affects 12 million people. My father was diagnosed with AFib and my family has a history of this condition, so I do my best to learn as much as I can about it.

I’ve learned that when the atrium’s squeezing becomes irregular, blood doesn’t flow as smoothly through the heart and clots can form. Those clots can travel to the brain, disrupting the oxygen supply and causing a stroke. People with AFib are at approximately 5 times greater risk for stroke than those with regular heartbeats. Stroke is a leading cause of death and also of serious, long-term disability. It is essential to get to a hospital quickly if you suspect a stroke in yourself or others.Learn the acronym FAST to recognize the signs of stroke:

F = Face. Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

A = Arms. Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

S = Speech. Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?

T= Time. If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away.

Take this survey (link in bio) for the chance to win 1 of 5 $100 VISA gift cards—takes less than 10 minutes.

Thanks, @mediqcme, and Duke Heart. Supported by an educational grant from the Bristol Myers Squibb and Pfizer Alliance.

Energizer Recharge Smart Review and Giveaway

When it comes to reviewing and giving away items that are useful and helps make my life easier, I am all for it. Energizer is always on the forefront of creating items that help charge all of our devices, and the Energizer Recharge Smart is an item that I can no longer live without in my home.

This version of Energizer’s Recharge Smart holds 4 rechargeable batteries (2 AA batteries or 4 AAA batteries), and it can charge these batteries up to 250 more times after the first initial use. It also lasts 4x’s longer in most digital cameras, giving you maximum use while you take your pictures.

In my home, we use a lot of batteries for everything—remote controls, digital cameras, portable games, and other devices, so having something like this is a lifesaver. Plus, it’s better on the environment; who wants to throw away a battery after one use?

What’s also awesome about the Energizer Recharge Smart is it has a countdown timer letting you know how much time you have to wait before the battery is fully recharged. The battery fuel gauge also helps show you how much power a battery has, and there is also a bad battery alert to indicate when a battery has made it past its prime.

If you are a busy household, you need the Energizer Recharge Smart!

I am giving away one (1) of these devices to one lucky reader. To enter, all you have to do is follow me on Facebook and leave a comment below letting me know you’ve entered.

Simple and fun!

A winner will be announced on Wednesday, April 13, 2011. Giveaway open to U.S. residents only, void where prohibited.

The Energizer Recharge Smart is available at most retail stores and discount outlets.

I, The Cubicle Chick, was given a device to review for this post at no charge. This did not shape my opinions or thoughts expressed in the review.
