February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partn February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partnered with @MedIQCME and Duke Health to raise awareness about atrial fibrillation (AFib), also known as irregular heartbeat which affects 12 million people. My father was diagnosed with AFib and my family has a history of this condition, so I do my best to learn as much as I can about it.

I’ve learned that when the atrium’s squeezing becomes irregular, blood doesn’t flow as smoothly through the heart and clots can form. Those clots can travel to the brain, disrupting the oxygen supply and causing a stroke. People with AFib are at approximately 5 times greater risk for stroke than those with regular heartbeats. Stroke is a leading cause of death and also of serious, long-term disability. It is essential to get to a hospital quickly if you suspect a stroke in yourself or others.Learn the acronym FAST to recognize the signs of stroke:

F = Face. Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

A = Arms. Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

S = Speech. Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?

T= Time. If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away.

Take this survey (link in bio) for the chance to win 1 of 5 $100 VISA gift cards—takes less than 10 minutes.

Thanks, @mediqcme, and Duke Heart. Supported by an educational grant from the Bristol Myers Squibb and Pfizer Alliance.

Giveaway: Celebrate Our Uniqueness with Diversity On Demand

Black History Month is wrapping up, but it’s never too late to celebrate and embrace the differences in us all. Diversity and multiculturalism are subjects that I feel should be discussed all year around, and the folks at cable’s On Demand agree with me. All February long, they have been celebrating diversity awareness and Black History Month with sharing programming that showcases our triumphs, our strengths, and even our struggles. And their Diversity On Demand Initiative works to spotlight diversity long after February is over.

According to the press release:

…” throughout February, digital cable customers are poised just a “click away” from unlocking some of the history, struggles and beauty that are an integral part of the African-American experience as part of cable’s Diversity On Demand initiative. With the advent of advanced digital cable platforms like On Demand, viewers can learn more about African-American history at their convenience during Black History Month.  Diversity On Demand kicks off February 1 focusing on Black History Month and wraps following Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept 15-Oct. 15), and is an expansion of cable’s on-going support of and commitment to multicultural programming.

Individuals, who “like” cable’s Diversity on Demand at www.facebook.com/DiversityOnDemand will see Black History programming updates and links to trailers and be alerted to various entertainment and blogger giveaways during the promotion. This will be an online destination where anyone interested in multicultural shows and movies can join to engage with others in the community, and learn more about what Diversity on Demand has to offer. Cable will celebrate multicultural programming throughout the year with contests, polls, trivia, trailers and more.

On Demand’s Diversity initiative is a fabulous way for all of us to get to know one another’s history better. In a world that is filled with uniqueness and individualism, it’s great to see brands such as On Demand celebrate and empower their customers with knowledge.

On Demand is giving away a Diversity on Demand prize pack to one (1) lucky TheCubicleChick.com reader. The gift pack consists of the following:
