Red, White and Fab: Fun and Easy 4th of July Party Tips

Guest Blog Written By: Danyel Buie, Event Planner Extraordinaire

Summer is here and the 4th of July holiday is the quintessential American summertime tradition. What better way to celebrate our nation’s birthday than with a fabulous backyard buffet for your family and friends? From great food to music and atmosphere, you can ensure a great time will be had by all who attend.

Here are 4 tips to help make your 4th of July party or event a fun, fab, and memorable event:

  • Make a List: Make a list of the items needed to make your party successful. This is not only helpful when shopping and making purchases, but it helps keep you organized and minimizes the stress that goes along with planning an event. Preparation is key!
  •  Prep the Backyard: Your location should be primed for maximum enjoyment and safety for your guests. Begin with a thorough cleaning of the inside of your home in high traffic areas (kitchen and bathrooms) and work your way outside to mowing the lawn,  washing patio furniture and tidying up the garden and flowerbeds. Remove any items such as sprinklers, tools, toys and any obstructive lawn decorations out of the party area for the safety of your guests. And be sure to patrol your grounds for any “pet presents” left behind!
  • Fabulous Food: What’s a party without good food? A successful backyard party involves a delicious array of different foods. Grilled meats such as steaks, chicken, hamburgers, hotdogs and kebabs are a crowd favorite. Some pleasing appetizers ideas include chips and salsa, vegetable trays, cheese trays, and seasonal fresh fruit. Grab your favorite dips or be creative and create a signature one of your own. Side dishes like potato salad, baked beans and grilled corn on the cob are a welcome addition. Desserts like cherry pie, fudge brownies and cake and ice cream are a delicious finish to your feast.
  •  Time for Fun!: Along with the fireworks fun, consider incorporating other games for your guests to enjoy such as horseshoes, volleyball and badminton for the adults; and a bounce house, water slide or trampoline for the kids. All of your guests would enjoy a water balloon toss, pool games, tug of war, and even a friendly game of American History trivia.

The 4th of July is a great way to celebrate the independence of our nation with family and friends. Have fun, be safe and enjoy the holiday!
