February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partn February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partnered with @MedIQCME and Duke Health to raise awareness about atrial fibrillation (AFib), also known as irregular heartbeat which affects 12 million people. My father was diagnosed with AFib and my family has a history of this condition, so I do my best to learn as much as I can about it.

I’ve learned that when the atrium’s squeezing becomes irregular, blood doesn’t flow as smoothly through the heart and clots can form. Those clots can travel to the brain, disrupting the oxygen supply and causing a stroke. People with AFib are at approximately 5 times greater risk for stroke than those with regular heartbeats. Stroke is a leading cause of death and also of serious, long-term disability. It is essential to get to a hospital quickly if you suspect a stroke in yourself or others.Learn the acronym FAST to recognize the signs of stroke:

F = Face. Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

A = Arms. Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

S = Speech. Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?

T= Time. If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away.

Build-a-Bear Workshop Reopening CeleBEARation at West County Center

On Sunday, The Chicklet and I got the pleasure of attending Build a Bear Workshop’s Grand Reopening CeleBEARation at West County Center here in St. Louis. After several months of being closed down for remodeling, the store was unveiled to a lucky lot of Build a Bear friends who were able to see the new store in all ifs glory.

As many of you already know, I am a huge fan of Build a Bear Workshop, and I have been able to work with them on many projects the last three years. I am also one of their 15 Friends helping celebrate 15 years of being in business. My daughter loves to visit Build a Bear and she has cultivated many friendships with her Build a Bear pals.

The new store is the first of its kind in Build a Bear history. It’s totally interactive for kids and parents, and has new features including the “heart” of the store which lets your child pick speak traits they want their Build a Bear friend to have.

The new location is definitely a step up from the traditional BABW store and is fun for kids and adults alike. The Chicklet had fun making her Halloween Hello Kitty, and we even bumped into a few friends who were also there enjoying the fun.

Below are pictures from the new Build a Bear Workshop store in West County Center. We can’t wait to visit again soon!
