February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partn February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partnered with @MedIQCME and Duke Health to raise awareness about atrial fibrillation (AFib), also known as irregular heartbeat which affects 12 million people. My father was diagnosed with AFib and my family has a history of this condition, so I do my best to learn as much as I can about it.

I’ve learned that when the atrium’s squeezing becomes irregular, blood doesn’t flow as smoothly through the heart and clots can form. Those clots can travel to the brain, disrupting the oxygen supply and causing a stroke. People with AFib are at approximately 5 times greater risk for stroke than those with regular heartbeats. Stroke is a leading cause of death and also of serious, long-term disability. It is essential to get to a hospital quickly if you suspect a stroke in yourself or others.Learn the acronym FAST to recognize the signs of stroke:

F = Face. Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

A = Arms. Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

S = Speech. Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?

T= Time. If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away.

Take this survey (link in bio) for the chance to win 1 of 5 $100 VISA gift cards—takes less than 10 minutes.

Thanks, @mediqcme, and Duke Heart. Supported by an educational grant from the Bristol Myers Squibb and Pfizer Alliance.

Halloween Giveaway: Rainbow Fairy Princess Costume

The Chicklet and I are really looking forward to Halloween. A few weeks ago while surfing the web, I found a fabulous costume that was fit for my princess—a Rainbow Fairy Princess costume complete with wings, leotard with tutu, leg warmers, etc. My daughter loved it so I went ahead and placed my order on Party City’s website. It arrived a few days ago, and with a surprise. There were two Rainbow Fairy Princess costumes, not just the one that I ordered.

We don’t have anyone in our family that wears my daughter’s size, so I thought I would offer it as a giveaway on my site. The costume is new and has not been opened and comes with these 5 pieces:

  • Dress
  • Wings
  • Headband
  • Arm Puffs
  • Leg Warmers

The costume is a size Medium which fits girls size 7 to 10.

I am giving away this costume to one random reader who leaves a comment on this post and likes my Facebook page. This giveaway will end on Tuesday, Oct. 23rd at 6pm CST, and the winner will be announced on my Facebook page. Once the winner has sent their mailing information, I will send the costume so that it will arrive before Halloween. This costume has a retail value of $39.99. Click HERE to see it on the Party City website.

This giveaway is open to U.S. and Canadian residents only, no purchase necessary, void where prohibited.

If the winner fails to claim this prize within 48 hours, another winner will be selected.

Good luck!

Girls have all the fun. Boys costumes are so limiting or violent 🙁

Joyce, I agree but there are a lot of costuming choices for boys as well. When my son was young, we had to get creative. One time he was a milk carton (his face was cut out—get it?) Another time he was a football player. I steered away from violent things, and concentrated on letting him be creative while having fun. 🙂
