I often say that being a mom is the toughest job you will ever love. You are the nurturer, the provider, the strength, the caretaker, the rock—to your family, you are everything and then some. There are plenty of days that we go unnoticed and unrecognized for all that we do, but Mother’s Day is the time where we get to bask in the fruits of our labor. Avon Representative Bianca Harris understands the importance of being in the business of being mom while making women feel and look beautiful. Here’s her story:
Bianca spent four years working as a Project Manager in a mostly male work environment. After missing the monumental first year of her youngest son’s development and firsts, she walked away from it all. Leaving behind her 14 hour work days, she became room mom for both of her children, something she wasn’t able to do when she was working full-time. She also embarked on entrepreneurship with AVON becoming an Independent AVON Representative.
Bianca forged ahead with her business while keeping her eye on the most important aspect of her life–her children and her family.
“Motherhood is very rewarding. There is nothing like it…however…it can have some slow, redundant moments. Avon allows moms to keep their current schedule and become an actual businesswoman without compromising her family time, value or contributions to her daily life. I am a full time Avon Representative, but I also am the room mom for both of my sons’ classes, I am a Zumba Instructor, and I am a chairperson on my homeowner’s association board. I have been able to do all of these all the while selling Avon”.
“The startup cost is another feature that is enticing to moms. $10 to start a business that can be the most fun and most rewarding thing a mother could do outside of motherhood is not a bad deal at all! If you get on a good team, you become part of a community of networking women that support your success and want to see you succeed. You would never be by yourself in this adventure”.
So, what is the best part of being an AVON Representative?
“The biggest aspect about selling Avon is that there is no one day like the next. Your daily experience can be different from meeting new clients, the opportunities you create through local events, partnering with local businesses, recruiting and empowering other women to do the same as you, or contributing to the community by fundraising, donations and lots more”.
“I have done a flash mob with Avon, and won the Makeup Maven contest for my division. Avon flew me to New York for 3 days (all expenses paid) and treated me like a QUEEN! Now, I am on the road for a chance to win a new car! The opportunities are endless and the sky is the limit”.
Bianca not only enjoys selling AVON, but is a big fan of their products too.
“In color (makeup) it’s the Cream Eye Shadow Primer, Big Color Eye Pencil (in Vanilla), Liqui Glide Eyeliners (ALL OF THEM!). They are long lasting, and less than $6.00! In the fragrance area, my current favorite is Fergie’s “Viva.” This has a soft but fierce scent without being fruity or floral. The new fragrances from Avon have all done well in my sales! In bath & body, the Fresh & Smooth hair removal (both face and body) for sensitive skin has a permanent place in my beauty tool kit”.
“The Skin So Soft Bug Guard are a MUST for me and my family. I love the smell, the effectiveness of the repellant and the sunscreen that it gives. One product that can do the job of 3….oh yes, sign me up! With Skincare – Anew Rejuvenate line / Anew Advanced Retexturizing Peel / Genics and the invigorating pore scrub have helped my skin tremendously. I suffer (or did) from adult Acne and the most well-known and well-advertised skincare products did nothing for my skin but make it worse. I was VERY surprised, and lucky, that Avon’s skincare has my skin looking the best it’s EVER has!”
And while Mother’s Day has passed, you can still give the gift of AVON to the mom in your life.
“Why not give a gift from the company whose 126 year history has been focused around empowering women. Why not purchase a token for the special women in your life from a company that has contributed over $700 billion dollars to breast cancer research, been a strong advocate for speaking out against domestic violence, and has allowed over 6.9 million women (and men) the opportunity to have the dream of owning their own business?”
“You aren’t just giving her a product, you are giving her a piece of history, a symbol of quality, and the truest form of appreciation from the Representative that aided in your purchase”.
Bianca Harris has certainly found her calling and understands the business of being mom and an entrepreneur.
“Moms are a key essential factor in the success of my Avon business. As a mom – I am proud to be a representative and show my children that success can start within, but that it starts by choosing the right path. Avon is my right path”.
