5 Ways to Have a Family Movie Night with Your Teen

Do you want to plan a family movie night with your teen? I'm sharing my tried and true tips on how to make your movie night a success.

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Universal Pictures at Walmart. The opinions and text are all mine.

Family Movie Night. More than ever, it is important for all of us to spend as much time together as we can. My daughter is growing up in all of her current freshman glory, and I am cherishing the time that she and I spend together. I try to create as many special moments as possible while she still wants to hang out with me before I lose all of my cool points.

Which brings me back to the topic of having a Family Movie Night. It gives you much needed bonding time enjoying something that we all love—movies. What’s better than sitting around in comfy clothes watching a movie together and noshing on treats?

I think my daughter and I have perfected this monthly ritual, so I am sharing 5 Ways to Have a Family Movie Night with Your Teen.

Put it to a Vote

We don’t always live in a democracy in my house (Mom’s word is rule), but on Family Movie Night, we decide to put it to a vote. This gives us both the opportunity to pick the movie of our choice. Most of the time, she wins the vote, but every once in awhile, I come up as the victor.

Sweet Treats

Movies mean having some yumminess available, so sweet treats are of the essence. A treat we like to nosh on is chocolate covered popcorn. Just pop up some kernels, drizzle some chocolate sauce on top, and voila, you have a sweet and savory concession that your teen will love.

Surround Sound

When we watch movies in our living room, surround sound is key. It makes us feel like we are at the movies—sometimes, it is a little too realistic.

Spa Please

If we are enjoying a rom-com, we like to partake in some home spa rituals. Our favorite is facial masks, or we take turns soaking our feet in my spa pedicure machine.

Instagram It

My daughter is in love with Instagram and she loves to share her activities on Insta Stories, so she and I come up with cute, quick vids so we can both get our share on.

We make sure to have a Family Movie Night at least once a month, and we put it on our calendar so it gives us something to look forward to.

So, there you have it—my tried and true ways to have a family movie night with your teen, which will allow you to be the cool parent on the block while getting some much needed time in with your kiddos.
