February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partn February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partnered with @MedIQCME and Duke Health to raise awareness about atrial fibrillation (AFib), also known as irregular heartbeat which affects 12 million people. My father was diagnosed with AFib and my family has a history of this condition, so I do my best to learn as much as I can about it.

I’ve learned that when the atrium’s squeezing becomes irregular, blood doesn’t flow as smoothly through the heart and clots can form. Those clots can travel to the brain, disrupting the oxygen supply and causing a stroke. People with AFib are at approximately 5 times greater risk for stroke than those with regular heartbeats. Stroke is a leading cause of death and also of serious, long-term disability. It is essential to get to a hospital quickly if you suspect a stroke in yourself or others.Learn the acronym FAST to recognize the signs of stroke:

F = Face. Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

A = Arms. Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

S = Speech. Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?

T= Time. If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away.

Have Yourself a Stress-Free Little Christmas, Mamas!

Working moms, you deserve to have yourself a stress-free little Christmas this year. I am sharing tips on how you can power through with no drama.

I’ve already shared with you how (and why) I am putting myself first this holiday season. In a nutshell, doing so allows me to pour into others from a full cup, not an empty one. I want to have something to give to my friends and family, and that means avoiding drama and extras when necessary.

It also means saying no to stress and saying yes to ME.

I want each and every one of you to have yourself a stress-free little Christmas, too! Here’s some tips on how you can accomplish just that:

Quality over quantity

You may feel like you have to be everywhere this holiday season, but you don’t. Allow this time of the year to be a bonding opportunity for those you are closest to, and make that your priority. This may mean not attending all of the holiday parties and soirees you are invited to, but it also means that your time will be well spent and that is what counts the most.

Save the social butterfly activities for January.

Ditch perfection

Things don’t have to be perfect for you to get the most out of Christmas. Stop worrying about the little details—so what if the presents aren’t wrapped perfectly, or your cookies aren’t Pinterest ready. Ditch perfection and enjoy yourself. You’ll thank me later.

Deck the halls with memories

December is all about creating memories, so make sure that you seize the opportunity. Put your phone on DND and watch holiday movies with your brood. Leave the laptop and tablet in another room and engage in a family game of Monopoly or Scrabble. You’ll never be able to get this time back, so focus on being the moment.

Quiet time

Etch out some quiet time daily so that you are able to get in touch with your center while giving you a moment of tranquility and peace.

Here are a few self-care tips for December that you can utilize to pour back into yourself.

Grab that journal

During your quiet moments and alone time, write down your thoughts and feelings in a journal. This can be very therapeutic and give you a place to process and relinquish your thoughts.

My eBook/journal/workbook, project:affirmation- 31 Days of Affirmations for Working Moms is a great tool to help you learn more about yourself while inspiring you with a month full of mantras written especially for working mamas.

Have yourself a stress-free little Christmas, and the best one yet!

How do you plan to stay stress-free this holiday season?
