I am super late sharing this video, so please charge it to my head, not my heart. My daughter will be a college junior this fall, but I chronicled our experience moving into her dorm for her sophomore year, and I am finally posting it here for your viewing pleasure.
College dorm move-in is not for the faint of heart, especially when you do it by plane like my daughter and I. But with the help of Dorm Room Movers and Southwest’s two free check-in bags, we got it done!
In this video, I am sharing how I moved my daughter from our home in St. Louis to her dorm room located in New York at St. John’s University.

Here are some things to remember:
Plan as much as you can in advance
Planning is everything when moving your college student into their dorm. If traveling by air, fly in at least one day before your student’s move-in day to account for possible travel delays. Book your hotel near the college—some colleges even have discount rates for partner hotels nearby, so check their official website for promo deals.
Make a list
Have a packing list and check it twice. Make a to-do list and split it into the following categories: 60 days before move-in, 30 days before move-in, two weeks before move-in, one week before move-in, week of move-in, day before move-in, and day of move-in. Keep the list on your phone for easy retrieval.

Have patience
Something will probably go wrong or not as smoothly as you’d like but have patience, stay calm, and try to enjoy the college move-in process as much as possible.
