One of the tastiest holidays is coming up—Thanksgiving! Turkey with all the trimmings, mashed potatoes, collard greens— it can be hard to stop drooling long enough to plan an appropriate ensemble for the occasion. You want to look dashing, of course, but also want your look to be able to accommodate a few extra helpings of pumpkin pie (just in case). Let the venue of your feast guide your outfit choices with these tips, as I do a rundown of what to wear on Thanksgiving. (you’re very welcome) 🙂
Thanksgiving Eve
Did you know that the night before Thanksgiving is considered the biggest “go-out” night of the year? Because people are home from school or in town to visit family, and most of us do not have to work the next day, Thanksgiving Eve is ripe for partying. Starting with a black-and-white color palette, add a saucy pop of cranberry. Of-the-moment leather shorts are an appetizing alternative to a skirt or jeans. Funky wedges give you height without the hurt, so you’ll be ready no matter where the night takes you!
H &M white shirt/ Biba red jacket / Express black tight / H&M black shorts/ Charlotte russe shoes / Nicole lee handbag
Friendsgiving
If you’re celebrating Thanksgiving sans kids or family, you may have a little more leeway with your outfit. Since uninhibited gobbling while watching (or pretending to watch) football is most likely acceptable to your crew, construct a casual, cool look that’s both celebratory and couch-approved. Score a style touchdown in a boho chic sweater, boyfriend jeans, and floppy hat.
Cotton cardigan / Gap tall jeans / American Vintage cotton t shirt/ Dr. Martens tan leather shoes / Antique gold necklace / Brimmed hat
Home-Cooked Meal with Family
For a traditional Thanksgiving meal at home with the family, your outfit needs equal servings of functionality and fun. A patterned cardigan sweater provides warmth, while chic sweatpants and flats will make the multiple trips back and forth from the kitchen much more bearable. Add pretty accessories for a dash of glam.
Tommy Hilfiger long sleeve cardigan / H&M shirts blouse/ Sole Society suede shoes / Bracelet watch / Sole Society gold band bracelet / Kevia earrings / Marled sweats
Catered Thanksgiving Party
As delicious as home-cooked turkey is in theory, time-strapped or oven-challenged families might prefer to get stuffed at a fancy restaurant. For more formal Thanksgiving dinners, try a sweet-potato-friendly (read: non-cinched waist) shift dress paired with feminine flats and statement jewelry. Use autumn’s hues to give your outfit a festive flavor!
Paisie mini dress / Jonathan Aston wet look tight / Ballet flat / Karen Millen blue handbag / Bib statement necklace / Jigsaw adjustable ring
No matter if you are celebrating Thanksgiving with the family, noshing on turkey with friends, or at a catered affair, I hope these style cues bring some ideas to light for you. Have a fabulous Thanksgiving.

I hadn’t given much thought to my holiday outfit this year since I’m traveling ON Thanksgiving Day. Thanks for the reminder to check out some thrift stores before I leave!
