As I am sitting here writing this post, I completed my first round of Christmas card addressing. I have no idea why I get so much joy and pleasure out of addressing my holiday cards, but it makes me smile. Each year, I spend hours picking out the perfect holiday card to send and personalizing it to make sure it reflects my family.
It seems as though sending cards is a lost art these days with the instant gratification of email and texting. Why spend actual money sending a personal card greeting when you can send a card or a text in minutes and save money on postage?
Maybe I am weird, but I actually LIKE sending cards and letters, and especially holiday cards. I like addressing them with my own personal touch with stickers and calligraphy, as well as picking out the perfect holiday stamps that are just right. I like checking my list twice to make sure I haven’t forgotten anyone—I feel so much like Oprah—you get a card, you get a card, you get a card! Hell, if you send me your address, you get a card! I just LOVE it!
There is nothing like opening your mailbox and receiving an actual card from someone who you know and like. My email box gets flooded, but there is always room in my in real life inbox for a personal card. I wish I received more.
So the question begs, will you be sending Christmas or holiday cards this year? Do you like receiving cards in the mail? I am anxiously awaiting your response.
Not only will I send but have already sent! Had them ready ThAnksgiving. Love Love Love sending and getting Christmas cards! I display them on fireplace mantle.
@Sia, and I thought I was on the ball! And I also display my cards on the fireplace mantle. They make for great holiday decor.
I, too, love sending Holiday Cards (I even did for Thanksgiving). I have BOXES of cards @ home. I don’t live close to ANY fam. Most are out of state. The closest is 2.5 hours from me & not all are computer savvy… even if they were? I’d still send the cards. I’ll be doing mine this coming week. 😉
@Miss Sara–good for you. Receiving holiday cards in the mail give me great pleasure. I can’t wait to begin receiving them.
We still send cards to our loved ones. Actually, me and my mom went to the bookstore last month just to buy Christmas cards for our relatives. I know that it’s an old school way to greet others but can be meaningful to those who are older than me, just like my grandma.

I SOOO wanted to send cards this year. My mom was such a procrastinator (sorry, Mom. It’s true), that she rarely sent them out when we were kids. This year is my first Christmas out on my own and I really wanted to send out a holiday picture card with me and my dog! But (there is always a ‘but’) it just got expensive and now Christmas is only a few weeks away….. Grrrr. Guess I’ll wait til next year!
I LOVE getting cards and letters. It is so personal and the fact someone took the time to sit down and address an envelope and cop some stamps says a lot in this digital age. I will definitely be sending out cards this year so I can hopefully brighten someone’s day.

It is so funny you wrote this blog. I was just talking to my longtime friend about this very thing. You see, she normally sends Christmas Cards out every year. I get it right after Thanksgiving. This year she said that she probably wouln’t. She would most likely send an e-card or something. Can you believe that? I remember eing a little girl and watching my mom address and receive Christmas Cards. Technology is good but somethings should never change.
This is my first year sending out Holiday cards, I’m just not personally big on Holidays as a whole. I did however find some cool ones that were wishing a Happy 2011 & I thought they were perfect. I combined photos of me & my boys & a personal note for each person. The card put much needed smiles on my family’s faces *my brother was murdered in August*. I think I will do holiday cards more often 🙂

Wow, @Brandy I am sorry for your loss. But it looks like you have been able to keep his memory alive with your 2011 cards. That was a wonderful idea!
