February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partn February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partnered with @MedIQCME and Duke Health to raise awareness about atrial fibrillation (AFib), also known as irregular heartbeat which affects 12 million people. My father was diagnosed with AFib and my family has a history of this condition, so I do my best to learn as much as I can about it.

I’ve learned that when the atrium’s squeezing becomes irregular, blood doesn’t flow as smoothly through the heart and clots can form. Those clots can travel to the brain, disrupting the oxygen supply and causing a stroke. People with AFib are at approximately 5 times greater risk for stroke than those with regular heartbeats. Stroke is a leading cause of death and also of serious, long-term disability. It is essential to get to a hospital quickly if you suspect a stroke in yourself or others.Learn the acronym FAST to recognize the signs of stroke:

F = Face. Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

A = Arms. Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

S = Speech. Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?

T= Time. If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away.

Gift Card Giveaway: Get Your Spring Clean On With Walmart

Spring is almost here! It’s the perfect time to get your home ready for the warmer climate by cleaning out closets, storing winter clothes and items, and prepping your living space for the bright and flowery season. Spring cleaning is a must in my house and in order to get it (and keep it) the way I want it, a little muscle needs to be put into cleaning and fixing up the place. Walmart is one of my go-to places to get everything I need for spring cleaning—-from cleaning supplies, to organizational tools, to housewares that celebrate the light colors of spring, Walmart is the one-stop place to get everything you need.

During spring cleanings, I pay close attention to my ceiling fans, cleaning off dust and debris. Also door frames, crown molding, and walls get special attention. With more sun pouring into my home, you tend to see everything, so if it’s not completely clean, it doesn’t bode well for the look of my house.

I also like to change the decor in my home to a lighter, brighter look. The bedrooms also get some special treatment with changing of the bedspreads and linens to less heavy comforters and blankets.

Walmart is giving one of my readers the opportunity to win a $15 gift card to help you purchase spring cleaning and organizational items for your home.

To enter to win the gift card, you must do the following:

  • Follow The Cubicle Chick on Facebook
  • Follow Walmart on Facebook
  • Comment below and let me know that you did as instructed and tell me how you prepare your home for spring. That’s it!

This giveaway is open to U.S. residents only, void where prohibited. A winner will be selected on Wed. March 28th after 6pm CST via Facebook. The winner will have 48 hours to claim the prize, or another winner will be chosen. The winner will be selected by random.org to ensure accuracy.

Good luck to everyone who is entering!

Who’s ready for spring?

I, The Cubicle Chick, have partnered with Walmart for this giveaway, and received a gift card for posting this on my site. This is not a sponsored or paid giveaway, and all opinions and material in this post are my own thoughts and ideas.

Every spring the kids and I go through all of their clothes and toys and donate what they don’t use to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation. We also clean the entire house top to bottom and clean all the windows outside. And that pesky coat closet. Yikes! Don’t even get me started. 🙂

Of course I’ve already liked you and Walmart…

My spring cleaning usually consists of dusting and cleaning what I don’t normally do, getting new comforters, new bathroom accessories (I like to change it up every now and then), cleaning out closets, throwing/giving away furniture/items I no longer need….

I like the redecorating part and finding new places for stuff I already have 🙂
