5 Takeaways I Learned at Atlanta’s Propel Summit for Women Entrepreneurs

On Friday, I traveled with my good friend Kesha (UncommonChick.com) to Atlanta for the Propel Summit for Women Entrepreneurs. The summit was the brainchild of entrepreneur, blogger, and money expert Andrea Amir, as a educational, networking, and mini conference surrounding many topics and issues that face women who own and run their own businesses. Andrea has been a personal friend of mine for about two years and she is also someone who I consult and run ideas by for my own business ideas and career. The event was filled with wonderful and fabulous business minded women who already owned their own businesses or are thinking about starting one, and we all dug into the knowledge that as given to us by a fantastic line of speakers.

We learned everything from how to successfully overcome barriers, to what intellectual property is and why it’s a must when you have a business, legal mistakes to avoid, and how to make money with your talents and passion. We also were given an amazing opportunity to “network in the round” where we each got to take turns mixing and networking in an organized environment.

I came away with so much from this event, and I must say, it was one of the best one day conferences I ever attended. And I am not just saying that because Propel was created by a friend of mine. I am saying it because I absolutely got so many takeaways from the speakers. There was so much valuable and viable information and tools shared in that room that I am going to be processing it for some time. Of course, putting it to use and making the information for me is my ultimate goal.

Here are 5 takeaways I learned at the Propel Summit for Women Entrepreneurs:

“Let go of your ego and ask for help and for what you want. A closed mouth doesn’t get fed,” —Adrienne Graham

“People don’t buy products and services. They buy solutions to problems,”—Allison Babb Phillips

“Don’t look it as competition. Look at it as a collaboration, when working with others in your niche/genre.” —Kyle Young

“Women sell themselves differently than men. Men aren’t afraid of tooting their own horn. Women downplay their expertise,” —Angela Stalcup

“How to figure your break even point. Fixed costs + Variable costs + Gross Profit = Break Even Point,” —Andrea Amir
