Thanksgiving is Over—Now What?

You’ve stuffed yourself last night with enough turkey to begin gobbling on your own. The cranberry sauce was a hit, and so was the sweet potato pie. So much fanfare is given to insure our family has a wonderful and memorable Thanksgiving holiday, but what’s next? Where do you go from here?

I know I give such attention to detail that I am often plagued with a feeling of let-down after a holiday. I guess the June Clever in me doesn’t want the party to end. Each year, I suffer from after the holiday doldrums which I have been able to fight with a few strategic activities. If you are too like this, then see if these work for you:

1. Keep busy: When you keep busy, it is hard to mope on what is past. Focus on the upcoming holiday, work, kids, family, the usual. Move forward, not backward.

2. Be realistic: All good things come to an end. Thanksgiving is over but there is also Christmas and New Year’s to look forward to.

3. Nothing is perfect: I used to search for perfection each holiday, but I just gave up. As long as my family is semi-happy, I’m happy! My job is done.

4. Satisfy you before others: You will never satisfy everyone all of the time. Satisfy yourself and be happy with that.

5. Don’t romanticize the holiday: This time of year is most awesome. The most wonderful time of the year! But don’t romanticize the holiday and get to carried away. If you are one to feel that let down after the holiday is over, the more you put into it, the more let-down you will feel.

I hope those 5 tips work for you as much as they have worked for me. Let’s keep it moving…life is a park so continue to play!

Great tips. I’m definitely feeling number 4. Gotta have time for yourself and self satisfaction otherwise there will be side effects that is detrimental to your health.

Hi there, I like tip #4 the most. We can’t please everyone else unless we make ourselves happy first. At least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it 🙂
    Happy Black Friday!
