What can I articulate about my 50th birthday that I haven’t already shared with my family, friends, or social updates? It was such a beautiful experience that both my kids curated, allowing me to feel loved, cared for, and adored. During my time with them for my birthday, they asked me how this birthday ranked among all my celebrations, and I told them it was definitely in the top three.
Of all of my favorite birthdays, both my children were present. When your kids are adults and live in different cities, you don’t always get to spend your special day with them. This particular birthday, I was able to enjoy both of them.
I will never forget the planning, thoughtfulness, time, and money spent to make my golden birthday one for the record books. My kids did an amazing job making me feel like a Queen for a Day.
Here’s how I celebrated my 50th birthday NYC style.
Birthday Brunch
Shortly after I landed in The Big Apple, we ate at Bubby’s in Tribeca. I noshed on Eggs Benedict, and it was good eating, especially after my flight. If you are looking for a moderately priced brunch option that isn’t too far from downtown, I suggest this spot.

Facial
These kids of mine know I love a good luxury pampering. My son booked me a facial at Glowbar in Tribeca, and it was everything and more. It’d been a while since I’ve had a facial, so this was truly needed. My facialist was wonderful, and when I left, I was indeed glowing.

Birthday Dinner
What’s better for the soul than soul food? For my 50th birthday, we had reservations at Melba’s in Harlem, where I got to indulge in my favorites: macaroni and cheese and collard greens. I was also surprised by the sweet potato pie and a rendition of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Happy Birthday’ sung not only by my kids, but also by Melba’s staff and everyone else in the restaurant. It was such a joy!

Central Park
I am a meat and cheese girl, so my brood knows I can appreciate a good charcuterie board. I was gifted an amazing grazing board with cheeses, nuts, meats, fruits, and crackers. We took the board to Central Park and dined in the middle of it all. A little champagne sealed the afternoon.

Roosevelt Island
I’ve been in NYC countless times and never took the opportunity to ride the Roosevelt Island tram. My kids made sure that on this trip, we all were able to experience it for the first time. For only the cost of a subway ride ($2.90), we hopped on the tram and took it to Roosevelt Island. We always seem to have fun together, no matter what we are doing, and this was no exception.

Thank you, Codi and Laylah, for being such great humans. I will forever love you to the moon and back.
This new chapter, being written as we speak, is full of endless possibilities. Come back here to read it with me
