My Son Turns 16 Today

Sixteen years ago today, I gave birth to my son, Codi. I cannot believe my little man is the big one six now, but of course, time waits for no one and flies by with a blink of an eye.

My son and I have been through many ups and downs together. Lately, our relationship has been strained. He is trying to find his way in life and I have been trying to teach him the ropes. It’s like we are oil and water. He isn’t so much rebelling, as he is excercizing his voice and his opinion. I know when I was his age, I also wanted to be individual and make my own mistakes. So right now. I am trying my best to give him his space and learn his own lessons. We have our good days and our bad days.

Last night, my son had a birthday dinner at Macaroni Grill with twenty of his closest friends. Today, I treated him to brunch per his request, and tonight, he has another birthday fete in his honor at one of his friend’s house.

There has been no car shopping yet, though. I plan on giving him my Jeep this fall when I purchase a new car. Until then, we will be sharing a vehicle. Besides, I don’t think it is wise to give him a car right off the bat. He must EARN it.

Despite our differences lately, I adore my son. He is a great kid and hasn’t given me much trouble. I am honored to be his mother and I hope that he achieves all his dreams and then some.

Today is bittersweet for me. He is now one year closer to being a man.
