The More Social We Are On The ‘Net, The More Less Social We Are In IRL?

..in real life. You know, the place that we actually live, pay our bills, eat, drink, etc.?

I have been noticing a trend within myself, and it was also brought to my attention by another friend who found she was doing the same thing. The more social and interactive we are with each other online, the more less social we are in person.

Let’s call it: The Anti-Socialization Of Social Networking.

We were having lunch together, but both of us were on our phones, her a Droid, me a Blackberry, tweeting and Facebooking and Foursquaring and blogging (yes, I Blog From The Berry).

Can we lead a life of synergy between both social networking and real life socialization?

What are your thoughts? I would like to hear from you!

Great topic you brought up. The same thing happens when you're more social "In Real Life" you become distant from online. Then you have to get back in the groove of thing online. I haven't found the balance yet. I'm still searching for the balance of online and IRL.

I'm on my comeback to online but I'm trying not to overdo it.

I am constantly trying to walk that tight rope of Internet vs IRL. I think the two can compliment one another. It’s all about making boundaries and striving to live your life the best way you see fit. I will be doing more blog posts about this.

You are absolutely right. I have become annoyed with friends when they are on their phones while I am with them. Then… I realized that I do the same. :-/ We get together with friends but we are not focused on one another because we're focused on our phones. I think when out with friends or family we should limit our phone usage. It is very hard. It takes a conscious effort for me and I always think I'm going to miss something via Twitter, Facebook, or a blog. Then I realize… I'm missing LIFE by not living it at that moment. *put phone back in bag*
