My Life as a Social Media Manager. So Far.

I am now settled into my new role as Social Media Manager for a large pizza chain in the Midwest. Read about the latest chapter in my career.

Hello.

So, you may have seen me announce my latest role on social media, or you might’ve missed it. Or you might be new to my website and weren’t around to see the announcement. As of this writing, I’ve been working as Social Media Manager for a pretty big pizza brand in the St. Louis area. I started this role the first week of September, and I pretty much hit the ground running. Now that it has been about six weeks, I can honestly say that I am adapting to this new chapter.

Back in 2018, I took a job as the Director of Social Media and Digital Marketing at KTRS, and I was in that position for about a year and three months. I then took a contract position at another huge local grocery store, but was laid off right before COVID-19 made its impact. I concentrated on my blog and my clients from March through September, and was delighted to snag this new position.

Listen, I have been a full-time professional blogger for 11 years now. I know the game, and I’ve done pretty well with it. What most pro-bloggers don’t tell you is that they usually have a job or paid gig, too. The fluctuations in blogging income can be a lot for a family to handle—having another reliable income stream really helps, and I feel no shame working my full-time gig with benefits while continuing to grow my empire.

Currently, my role at Imo’s Pizza is helping me sharpen my skills, not only in social media management, but also in crisis management, customer service, brand marketing, and more.

Imo’s Pizza is such a beloved brand in the area, and with 100 parlors in Missouri, Illinois, and Kansas, I certainly have my hands full most days. Learning how to curate content from a food perspective has been challenging, but I feel that I’ve risen to the occasion.

During this time, I look forward to growing in my role, and working with an incredible team of creatives who all have one common goal. Iron indeed sharpens iron.

In the meantime, I will continue to create content on TheCubicleChick.com as well as my Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook profiles. Vlogging has been my biggest challenge, as I haven’t had time (or the bandwidth) to create new vlogs lately, but I am not giving it up for good YET.

In terms of Work Life Management, I’ve also been working to find my groove. Here’s what I’ve been focusing on the most:

Limit working during off hours

This is huge for those of us who juggle working a full-time job while being an entrepreneur. I do not work on my day-job tasks off hours, unless it cannot helped. I have a hard-stop at 6:30pm—anything after that is time that I devote to my family or to by business. I also try not to work on weekends, but in this social media life, sometimes, I do admit that I do have to check-in to see how things are flowing.

Schedule in time with my daughter

Each weekend, I have been making sure that I spend time with my daughter. Yes, uninterrupted bonding time. I schedule in blocks of time that belong to her and her only, so that I can make sure to continue to cultivate our connection.

Baby steps

My role is new, and so is my department at work. It takes a lot of time and manpower to get us where we need to be, but I also understand that it’s going to take time for us to hit our stride. I can’t do it all right away. I’ve been taking the baby steps approach to make sure I don’t get overwhelmed.

Many of you have been on this journey with me since the beginning, and I cannot wait to bring you along during this next version of my story.

Thank you!
