Blogging Full-Time

pink1Recent events in my life have transpired and its caused me to rethink my overall game plan professionally. When I began my quest into adulthood many years ago, I planned to go to college, major in Journalism, and become a writer. Not just someone who wrote per se but someone who was paid for their work in print. Of course as a single mother, I had to not only go to college but provide income in order to take care of my son and me. Fast forward to present time, where I have put off my dream because reality bites. Bills need to be paid, so you do what you have to do. Sometimes that is not in your chosen field (as in my case).

I look online and glance and study many other blogs, and I see the potential that a good blog writer has, in growing their portfolio, their brand, and their prospective blogs and websites. I really want to put my hat into the ring as well and see what develops. That is, step out on faith and do something that I’ve always wanted to do for a long time.

When I started The Cubicle Chick almost two months ago, I had a plan but really no way to put the plan in motion. I began posting and I saw what worked and what didn’t, and I looked to others in this area for guidance and vision. What I really needed to know within myself was if I had the  wherewithal to run a blog, update it regularly, respond to requests and emails, seek out advertisers and the like. And what I found is that I really enjoy it! How does one go about doing it full time?

I’ve researched and read and consulted and daydreamed and stressed and cried and smiled and laughed and when its all said and done, I know what I want to do. And that is, concentrate on my blog full-time.

So I pose this question to my readers, who also blog as well. Are you a full-time blogger? If so, how did you reach your decision? What should I expect should I choose to go this route? What do I need to do in order to catapult myself to the next level?

I look forward to reading your responses, suggestions, and feedback.

I am ready to move forward….

I'm not a full-time blogger, but shoot, if I could get just a little bit of backing to keep my lights on and such, then I'd be all for it. I guess I should look into it a bit more.

I'm currently looking into it myself. With the New Year approaching, I want a new start of sorts. And you will never know unless you try. Still it's a lot to think about so I am taking my time. For now.

I'm actually unemployed now as of 11/4 so technically you could say I am full time, althought the revenues would tell you otherwise LOL. Anyhoo…I'll be a regular, best wishes and I'll let you know how goes it for me too. toodles. ~ ini

Full Time blogging sounds like a great idea but before taking the leap I would look at much money you're already bringing blogging and lay out a plan of the steps you're going to take to expand those revenues to a full time salary.

read Problogger.net, he is a full time blogger and a lot of great post on the pros and cons of being one.

Thank you for the advice. It's something I am considering but there is so much to weigh in terms of financial, etc. etc. I have Problogger.net as a favorite and plan to go through their website to learn more about the options, pros, cons, etc.

A lot of fulltime bloggers I know turned fulltime by making their blog into more of a mag with various topics so they'll have more topics to write on. And many fulltime bloggers also blog about what they actually do professionally or as a major hobby, like a makeup artist has a blog about makeup… focusing on something that you have a huge interest in.

I'm not a fulltime blogger, just post on days that I have something to share. I personally would like to start a local online mag for young professionals in my area, but I work fulltime, fulltime mom and also just started an online business designing bags and scarves. Soooo the blogmag is on the back burner.

Definitely research and make sure that it is something that you can commit to. I'll keep stalking your blog, we all need the hits lol. Much luck to you!

If you've got determination, it can be done, but I've discovered that it is a lot easier making money at my part-time job outside the home (unfortunately!)

Wow! This is a great post. Very honest. I wish I had known about all this social media stuff when I was a stay at home mom. But now that I'm working again, my job really gets in the way of my blogging :). My best advice is to find the blogs that you really like and look at their blogrolls. Good bloggers usually know other bloggers. So research as many blogs as you can, subscribe to them, leave comments and develop relationships that way. Also, going to blogger conferences is very helpful. I attended in Blogalicious (http://www.blogaliciousweekend.com) in October. It was an amazing experience. I strongly suggest that you go next year. But you dont' have to wait until October for a conference. There are so many throughout the year that can be helpful. Good luck with everything. Keep Posting.

Thank you for visiting my site! I wanted to attend Blogalicious myself but at the time, couldn't afford the vacation time away from work. I plan on going next year and attending other events as they come up as well! I haven't decided if I want to pursue a blogging career but I am giving it some deep thought! Thanks for your suggestions!
