Staying Fabulous During the Holidays

With all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, the running around, the preparing, the entertaining, the cooking, it can really take a toll on your mind and body. All of this on top of your everyday duties that have to be done, it’s enough to make you (and I) go crazy. I’ve written previously about ‘Looking for Perfection During the Holidays‘, but on this post, I want to focus on staying fabulous during this hectic time of the year.

Being fabulous is not just about looking good or having the nicest clothes or shoes or latest haircut. It’s about taking care of yourself so that you can best take care of others. My definition of  being fabulous is not about your outside appearance at all. Being fabulous is about taking care of oneself from within which in turn, radiates your glow outside to others. You can’t take care of others until you take care of yourself.

We’ve all got a lot on our plates, of course, but the best service that we can do for our family and friends is to keep ourselves happy when we are doing for others. That is, taking time out of the day to relax and chill and enjoy the holiday goings on. A worn down mommy, wife, host, etc. won’t make for a good holiday, so make sure that YOU are taken care of. Whether it’s a manicure or pedicure after a long day of shopping or decorating the house or working, you deserve it!

Pampering yourself doesn’t have to cost any money either. You can take an extra long hot bath and play some soothing and calming music while relaxing, or give yourself an at home facial with items that you already have available. You can paint your nails a new exciting color. Light candles around your bedroom and make it extra cozy while reading your favorite book or magazine. There are so many creative ways to be fabulous while doing for others.

If you have a mate or a spouse, you can take turns giving one another massages which is sure to relax you and maybe even spark some heat in the bedroom. One thing I do a lot during this time of year is take long drives by myself, playing my iPod with an audiobook of my choice playing through the speakers. I ride around alone, looking at Christmas lights, the scenery. It brings me closer to my center and truly shows me that in the end, this holiday is not about the hustle and bustle, the gifts, the money spent, its about the birth of Christ.

What do you do to relax and stay fab during the holidays? What are your tips to other women who are doing everything for others and nothing for themselves? Comment below and let your fabulosity be known. Stay blessed. And Happy Holidays 🙂

This post (and your advice) was right on time for me…I've been so caught up in everyone and everything other than myself… I am starting to feel a bit under the weather. I am taking the rest of the this evening to relax and get my myself right. Must keep my fabulous status in tact…thank you!

Thanks sis! I think as women, we all fall victim to nurturing everyone but ourselves. I'm glad this post was helpful.

I think your advice is great! Sometimes during the holidays we can become so stressed until it is almost impossible to enjoy the moments. We get so focused on what’s coming next that we miss the special moments with our family members that are invaluable. Thanks for a great post.
