February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partn February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partnered with @MedIQCME and Duke Health to raise awareness about atrial fibrillation (AFib), also known as irregular heartbeat which affects 12 million people. My father was diagnosed with AFib and my family has a history of this condition, so I do my best to learn as much as I can about it.

I’ve learned that when the atrium’s squeezing becomes irregular, blood doesn’t flow as smoothly through the heart and clots can form. Those clots can travel to the brain, disrupting the oxygen supply and causing a stroke. People with AFib are at approximately 5 times greater risk for stroke than those with regular heartbeats. Stroke is a leading cause of death and also of serious, long-term disability. It is essential to get to a hospital quickly if you suspect a stroke in yourself or others.Learn the acronym FAST to recognize the signs of stroke:

F = Face. Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

A = Arms. Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

S = Speech. Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?

T= Time. If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away.

Take this survey (link in bio) for the chance to win 1 of 5 $100 VISA gift cards—takes less than 10 minutes.

What Makes You Feel Sexy?

The perfect little black dress with some fabulous designer high heeled pumps with a fragranced scent of perfection could do it? Or a warm bath in the jacuzzi tub with the jets at full blast bubbling as candles glow lightly in the bathroom? Or how about a wink from a cute guy across the room that is saying so much without uttering a word?

What is it that makes you feel sexy?

We do so much with our days. Between work and home and family and trying to have some type of life recreationally, we can forget about the little things in life that are oh so important. Keeping and maintaing that groove of being fabulous and sexy could get lost in the shuffle. But just as you schedule appointments for meetings and work and activities for the kids, you must schedule some time for yourself to keep it sexy.

I love being pampered. Getting things like manicures and pedicures make me feel beautiful and special and oh so sexy. Or a deep tissue massage. Or going out to my favorite club or nightspot and dancing the night away to the deejay playing my favorite jams is another way that I keep that groove. You don’t want to ever lose the groove. Do you remember Stella from Terry McMillan’s ‘How Stella Got Her Groove Back?” She was one of the first “cougars” on record who went to Jamaica on a fabulous vacation only to fall in love with a younger man. Why? Because he believed in her, loved her for being her, and made her feel sexy.

You don’t have to go all the way to Jamaica to get your groove back if you lost it. Do things that make you feel sexy—salsa dance or do something exotic and fun like signing up for pole dancing fitness classes. Whatever it is that makes you feel that special kind of way, make sure you take time to luxuriate in it whenever you can. Doing so can help you stay young, active, healthy, and of course, sexy.

So ladies, do not let the stress of your life interrupt your flow. Keep it sexy and do the things YOU like to do. When you take time out for yourselves, you can better take care of the ones you love.

What are some things that you do to feel sexy? Use the comment below to sound off. I want to hear from you!

My man makes me feel sexy. Holding his hand, him smiling at me, when he tells me how beautiful I am, even when I feel I am at my worse.

Getting a fresh cut makes me feel sexy. I've been Baldilocks for almost a year now and there's no feeling greater than coming out of my barber's chair with the FRESHEST 'do. Not only do I feel like a million bucks, but my smile is automatically illuminated. I feel like my teeth whiten and my lips broaden. In short, I just get FLY!
Painting my nails also does the trick. I have the shortest, stubbiest little fingers, but they light UP once I apply just a hint of color. Right now they're a creamy yellow; looking oh so fun and flirty. It's just a small thing, but it makes me feel just as fun and ready to flirt. 🙂
