February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partn February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partnered with @MedIQCME and Duke Health to raise awareness about atrial fibrillation (AFib), also known as irregular heartbeat which affects 12 million people. My father was diagnosed with AFib and my family has a history of this condition, so I do my best to learn as much as I can about it.

I’ve learned that when the atrium’s squeezing becomes irregular, blood doesn’t flow as smoothly through the heart and clots can form. Those clots can travel to the brain, disrupting the oxygen supply and causing a stroke. People with AFib are at approximately 5 times greater risk for stroke than those with regular heartbeats. Stroke is a leading cause of death and also of serious, long-term disability. It is essential to get to a hospital quickly if you suspect a stroke in yourself or others.Learn the acronym FAST to recognize the signs of stroke:

F = Face. Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

A = Arms. Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

S = Speech. Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?

T= Time. If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away.

Forget High Cost Jeans: Study Finds Women Spend An Average $34 On Denim

A recent study found that women spend an average of $34 on jeans, which is a shocking figure when you think of all of the designer denim in the stores that are $200 + dollars. There is a segment of women who find these desirable and do pay that cost for jeans, but for the most part, women are spending less on jeans at retailers like Old Navy and The Gap.

But according to ShopSmart by Consumer Reports magazine, it may not just be price as the reason for the $34 average rate. “As much as women are hooked on these weekend faves turned fashion staple, over half of the women polled (56%) said they have trouble finding jeans that fit and flatter, with 8 percent seeking professional help to find a pair,” says ShopSmart editor-in-chief Lisa Lee Freeman.

Basically, the high priced designer jeans are not made for different body types, whereas the lower priced jeans are.

The data from the study was polled by 1,000 women from the age of 18 and up. In the age group of 18 to 34, women spent around $60 per pair.

Other poll findings? Most women wash their jeans after two to three wears to reduce shrinking. 20% of women in the poll hold on to a pair of jeans for 10 years or more. The ultra low-rise jeans are the style women hate the most.

Personally, I do not pay a lot for my jeans. As the mother of two, my dollars have to be carefully budgeted in terms of clothing, plus I do not wear jeans very often. I mostly invest in skirts, dresses, leggings, and other wear. You will rarely find me in jeans.

What do you think of the study? How much do you generally spend on a pair of jeans?

I’m all about a great pair if jeans! Changes your entire body shape & a cheap pair scream out like Lil Richard. BUT I for sure understand the right brands can be found in sale. my favorite spots to get denim are Macys, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, & Old Navy. Yes I have various MK jeans, NO I didn’t pay his retail cost. Love Mr Kol but I’m not buying him another golf cart just to wear jeans 🙂

Finding that perfect pair of jeans that fit, flatter and are super comfortable is an art form. I like to wear jeans as much as possible so finding the right pair is a big deal to me. I'd agree that most of the designer jeans are not made for different body types and even though it's an option, I personally wouldn't spend even more money to have a tailor alter $200 jeans so they fit right. Stores like Old Navy that have different shapes and even "short" and "tall" sizes jeans make it SO much easier to find pairs that fit great and the lower price is a bonus. Personally, if the jeans look great and make me feel great, who cares what the label says.
