This year’s VMAs were interesting to say the least. All eyes were on Kanye West to see if he would behave and redeem himself from last year’s drunken interruption of Taylor Swift’s award acceptance. It was really what people tuned in to see. But other than Kanye, there were some best of show and worst of show moments, which made this year’s awards telecast eventful.
Here are my best and worst moments of the 2010 MTV VMAs:
THE BEST
The stage-
The art deco white 60’s influenced stage with is grandiose staircases and massive floor stages were indeed a wonderful site on my flatscreen. The stage was definitely one of the best parts of the program.
Eminem-
Say what you want about Eminem, when he performs, he always brings it. Most emcees cannot recreate their studio vocals, but Eminem can create a mood with his voice live.
Lady Gaga-
Lady Gaga is THE artist of the year. She virtually swept every category she was in and did so with humility and grace. And she is so damn weird, she is captivating for the television screen.
Florence + the Machine-
Wow and wow! I heard their song, The Dog Days Are Over in the commercials for ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ but had no idea the lyrics and delivery were so powerful! And she did it all live! I will be buying their CD off the strength of that performance.
Cher-
What can I say? She proved that she still had it AND made the other stars younger than her look like copy cats. How cool is that?
Kanye West-
This was Kanye West’s redemption song and he brought it with his performance. LOVED IT!
THE WORST
Chelsea Handler-
Chelsea’s jokes were simply dry and unfunny. One of the worst VMA hosts ever. Sorry Chelsea!
Rihanna-
Rihanna came out halfway through Eminem’s performance of their collaboration, “Love the Way You Lie” and her vocals have improved but her stage presence has not. She looked awkward with Eminem.
Usher-
Usher doesn’t move the crowd like he used to.
The MTV commercialism-
Everything seemed to be an ad or a plug a product. It was if the VMAs were one long glorified commercial.
Lip Synching-
It seemed few people actually sang live last night. Everyone from Nicki Minaj to Justin Beiber had a backing vocal track. Me no like!
