Today is International Women’s Day

Today celebrates the achievements and contributions of women from all over the world. March 8th has been officially deemed International Women’s Day, and the month of March is Women’s History Month. We are the caretakers, the healers, the leaders, the believers, the creators…I could go on and on. Being a woman is one of the toughest jobs on the planet, and yet somehow, we make it happen without missing a beat.

We have come a long way but there is still a long way for us to go. We still lag behind men in terms of wages even though we have made strides in upper management in major corporations. International Women’s Day is a celebration but also a reminder that there is still work that needs to be done.

Because there is still a disproportionate number of women making the same amount as men, the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is Equal access to education, training and science and technology: Pathway to decent work for women.

The folks over at Google created a “doodle” celebrating our day in history.

2011 marks the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day. Make sure to celebrate! Go LADIES!
