February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partn February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partnered with @MedIQCME and Duke Health to raise awareness about atrial fibrillation (AFib), also known as irregular heartbeat which affects 12 million people. My father was diagnosed with AFib and my family has a history of this condition, so I do my best to learn as much as I can about it.

I’ve learned that when the atrium’s squeezing becomes irregular, blood doesn’t flow as smoothly through the heart and clots can form. Those clots can travel to the brain, disrupting the oxygen supply and causing a stroke. People with AFib are at approximately 5 times greater risk for stroke than those with regular heartbeats. Stroke is a leading cause of death and also of serious, long-term disability. It is essential to get to a hospital quickly if you suspect a stroke in yourself or others.Learn the acronym FAST to recognize the signs of stroke:

F = Face. Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

A = Arms. Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

S = Speech. Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?

T= Time. If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away.

My Chicklet Turns 8: Birthday Soiree at Build-a-Bear Workshop

On February 17th, my daughter turned 8 years old. I can’t believe that she is already 8 years old—it seemed like it was just yesterday that I swaddled her in her baby blanket. And now she is a 2nd grader.

My daughter wanted to have her birthday shindig at Build-A-Bear Workshop, so she invited a few of her friends to celebrate with her. Build-A-Bear is one of her favorite places and I thought the idea of her making new furry friends with her friends was something she would always remember.

The kids made bears, they laughed, they played, and they created memories. And as I watched the kids mix and mingle and enjoy themselves, it made me thankful for having such a wonderful daughter. She has been such a blessing to me and to our family!

The staff at Build-A-Bear Workshop at West County Center here in St. Louis made sure that my birthday girl was treated like a star. They were friendly and helpful, but they always are every time we visit. And we visit a lot!

Below are a few pictures from the Build-A-Bear Workshop soiree:

The birthday girl!

I am not sure how we are going to top this year’s birthday party, but I guess that is something I can begin thinking about several months from now! 🙂

How do you create memories with Build-A-Bear Workshop?

I, The Cubicle Chick, am one of Build-A-Bear Workshop’s 15 Friends, a campaign created to celebrate 15 years in business and 100 million furry friends. I receive special perks for being a “friend” of Build-A-Bear Workshop. The opinions in this post are all mine.

I love Build-A-Bear, the party was a good idea, didn’t know they offered that. My girls are older now, they still have their animals. Enjoy, they grow up so fast, I know you are quite aware of that though. 🙁
