February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partn February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partnered with @MedIQCME and Duke Health to raise awareness about atrial fibrillation (AFib), also known as irregular heartbeat which affects 12 million people. My father was diagnosed with AFib and my family has a history of this condition, so I do my best to learn as much as I can about it.

I’ve learned that when the atrium’s squeezing becomes irregular, blood doesn’t flow as smoothly through the heart and clots can form. Those clots can travel to the brain, disrupting the oxygen supply and causing a stroke. People with AFib are at approximately 5 times greater risk for stroke than those with regular heartbeats. Stroke is a leading cause of death and also of serious, long-term disability. It is essential to get to a hospital quickly if you suspect a stroke in yourself or others.Learn the acronym FAST to recognize the signs of stroke:

F = Face. Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

A = Arms. Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

S = Speech. Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?

T= Time. If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away.

I’m Heading to the Wanderlust Festival in Squaw Valley with Toyota

Your Cubicle Chick has been earning her frequent flyer miles this year! I am excited to announce that I was selected as one of the Toyota Women’s Influencer Network (TWIN) bloggers to attend the amazing Wanderlust Festival at Squaw Valley located in North Lake Tahoe, California. I am beyond geeked about this because I have never attended an event like Wanderlust before.

What is Wanderlust you ask? Well, from what I gather, it’s a festival type of experience located at some of the most beautiful locations in America that is full of activities, workshops, and concerts that are specifically created for the mind and body.  There’s yoga, hiking, dancing, meditation, and concerts all centered around unity, freedom, and joy.

Here’s more from the Wanderlust website:

Wanderlust is a one-of-a-kind festival bringing together the world’s leading yoga teachers, top musical acts and DJs, renowned speakers, top chefs and winemakers, and much, much more — all in a setting of breathtaking natural beauty.  We’re talking about fun in the sun and dancing under the stars. Hiking on peaceful trails and gettin’ your down dog on at the top of the mountain. Sipping poolside cocktails with your friends, and then enjoying a tasty farm-to-table dinner with views of the surrounding mountain peaks. Early morning meditations and all-night chakra spinning musical performances — it’s an all-out ecstatic celebration in the most awe-inspiring locations in the world.

I recently just signed up for my classes and workshops during Wanderlust and I am so excited. I will be sitting in a class being taught by the very amazing Wayne Dyer. I am also going to be taking beginning yoga, a workshop of developing a positive mind, and learning to breathe correctly to maximize my health.

One of my goals this year was to work on becoming a better person from the inside out, and this festival truly looks like it will help me in my journey to work these areas.

I feel like my inner flower child is going to come forth through this journey I will be taking at Wanderlust. I am always looking for positive things that can help me learn and grow and become a better person, so the Wanderlust Festival is right up my alley.

My trip begins on July 25th (the festival is from July 26th through 29th) and I cannot wait. It’s going to be a fabulous time, and I will be blogging about it right here.

Special thanks to the Toyota crew for the opportunity to attend the Wanderlust Festival in Squaw Valley. This is an opportunity of a lifetime!
