What Does Valentine’s Day Mean To You?

My Chicklet making her Valentine's Day cards

Is it the romance in the air? The flowers, the chocolate, or Cupid’s arrow? Is it the red hearts that cover every gift shop and every market? Or is it simply because it is a holiday that is all about L-O-V-E?

Whatever the case, Valentine’s Day is a day that you either love or you hate. For those of us who have a special someone, it can be a day that is filled with gestures of love and kindness. If you have kids, chances are, they are in on the Valentine’s Day pomp and circumstance as well, letting you be creative and spend quality time with them making arts and crafts. But if you are alone or going through a rough patch romantically, Valentine’s Day can bring out the Scrooge in you.

But what does Valentine’s Day really mean to you?

For me, it means a day for me to show the people in my life who I really care about that I love them. It’s not about gifts or expensive dinners or money—-it’s the thought that I have some pretty special people in my life and I am pretty darned lucky to have them!

My 7 year old daughter and I spend a lot of time around Valentine’s Day making arts and crafts and creating her Valentines for her class. It’s a time where she and I bond over coming up with ideas for us to show one another how we feel about each other. For me, above everything else, is this time that I spend with her. It has become a celebration of our relationship as mom and daughter and I hope that we continue this tradition even after she gets older.

There are some people out there who cannot stand Valentine’s Day and everything it represents. But for me, I know love, so I want to show love. To everyone who is in my life. Valentine’s Day is a great time to do that.

What does Valentine’s Day mean to you? Is it a drag, or is it something that you look forward to? Speak on it! And have a Happy Valentine’s Day!

In my family V’Day is not a drag but it’s also not something we look forward to. It’s just another day. I understand and respect others who celebrate the day but it just not my cup of tea. I use V’Day as a day to reinforce to my kiddos that self love is the best love of all. For me the REAL fun is the day after Valentines- that’s the day the candles and flowers go on sale!!!

    XOXO

Virtual Diva, yes, those sales will be fabulous! I often buy items for the next Valentine’s Day the day after. Not candy, though, because I am uncertain about the shelf life. LOL.

I didn’t care about the day until this year with my daughter. I want to teach her about loving herself and showing love and appreciation for others as well. I can do that anytime but it is nice to take a step back. We made gifts for her classmates and now she’s Miss Popularity. Granted she is not 3 yet but heck – who doesn’t want to be the most popular girl in class!!!

Yes, I believe its a love acknowlegement day. It says to us “hey, tell someone you love or care for them today, especially if you don’t do it as much or often. I didn’t really care for it until I was in a relationship and when you show somone how much you love them through words, hugs and kiss, that’s more than enough. Even though I am not with anybody, I still wished everyone I cared for a Happy Valentines Days, including a previous boyfriend because he is still special to me — that I had to explain to him. Love is freedom and it is liberating. You don’t have do much and it doesn’t hurt!
