Dude, You’re Getting a Toyota Prius!

Last week, I was invited to the Toyota Women’s Influencer Network (or TWIN) Camp in Los Angeles, California. As a new member of TWIN, we were given the opportunity to attend Toyota University and learn all about the fabulous things Toyota has going on. From their social media strategy to their philanthropy and giving, to their employee initiatives (and of course, the cars!), we learned quite a bit.

My most favorite part of the trip was the Ride and Drive experience where we actually got to drive Toyota vehicles of our choice to get a feel for how they handle the road, how they look inside, and their various features and specifications. It was during this Ride and Drive experience that I made a huge decision. I decided that my son would be getting a Toyota Prius.

My 18 year old manchild recently graduated from high school and is heading to Los Angeles himself to attend college. Currently, he is driving my old 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which is a gas guzzler and has numerous issues engine wise. It runs, but won’t pass inspection due to a bevy of items that needs to be fixed on it. So now that he is more familiar with the road and has been driving for a minute, I think it’s time he gets a newer, more fuel efficient vehicle that will be safe for him to drive.

After driving the 2012 Prius Liftback (original version), I fell in love with it. It was virtually silent, runs with ease, and has impressive space and horsepower. This a perfect “first time car” for my son and meets all of my stringent qualifications.

Here are a few pictures of the 2012 Prius during my Ride and Drive Experience at the TWIN Camp:

{The spiffy Toyota Prius Hybrid Liftback}

{Don’t let the word ‘Hybrid’ throw you off. There’s plenty of power in this Prius}

{The 2012 Toyota Prius has a “joystick” for driving controls. It took me a little getting used to}

{Fellow Toyota TWIN-NER Lizz joined me during the ride as well as a Toyota employee who did a fabulous job telling us about the Prius}

{Yes, that’s TWIN member Kitty Bradshaw riding shotgun! Who runs the world? GIRLS!}

I fell in love with the 2012 Toyota Prius Hybrid during the Ride and Drive Experience. And even though I know my son is benefiting from my test drive by getting a new car, I feel I am the real winner now that I have a peace of mind knowing that my son will be driving around L.A. in a safe vehicle.

What do you think about the 2012 Toyota Prius?

P.S. Stay tuned, as I will be blogging more about my TWIN Camp experience in the weeks to come! 🙂

    Sounds like a great learning experience. Did they show you guys the other Prius models as well, such as the V and the C?

      Hi Erik, thanks for commenting. They had many Toyota vehicles for us to drive. But there was only so much time, so I drove the Prius, the 2012 Camry Hybrid, and the 2012 Rav-4. I will be blogging about those later in the weeks to come. I want to also test drive the C and the V to make sure I want to go with the Liftback. Maybe I need to visit your dealership. lol

      Thanks for commenting Kymberly. Yes, the gas in my son’s Jeep Grand Cherokee is killing me. It is not fuel efficient at all. And add to the fact that it not very planet friendly either. I want to get a chance to drive the Prius C and V before I make my final decision. I know this is the best way to go for my son, my family and my piece of mind. 🙂

        I would say check out the other Toyota hybrids as well. I have the Camry hybrid and I love it. Ive also heard great things about most of the Prius’. I don’t think you can lose with any of the hybrids from their line.

    When I think of the Prius, all I can think of is Will Ferrell in the Other Guys flooring it and yelling, “America!”

    We have a Ford Fusion Hybrid and love it.

    Congrats on the new car. From what I hear it’s great and your son will love it.

    But now whenever I hear Toyota Prius I think of the Other Guys. HOpefully, your son won’t get picked on because of it.

    Then again, he should be happy that he gets such a nice car. My first car was a 97 Ford Escort that I’m still driving today!
