Earth Hour Is Almost Here- March 27th

Saturday, March 27th at 8:30 PM marks Earth Hour. For those of you who are unaware what Earth Hour is, it is a globally recognized event in which people all over the world turn off their lights for one hour.

Earth Hour began in Australia in 2007, and 2.2 million homes and businesses turned out their lights for an hour to take a powerful stance against climate change. Since then, the organization has spread to every country and continent, and has become a huge event here in America. Hundreds of millions of homes and businesses participated in Earth Hour. Many government offices, landmarks, and other iconic buildings stood dark for an hour.

Last year was the first year that I participated in Earth Hour. I learned about it via Twitter because others were spreading the word.

I believe Earth Hour is important and I will also be participating in it this year as well. Climate change is a well documented phenomenon that is taking place in our world, and if we continue to ignore it, we are doomed to ruin the world in which we live in. Earth Hour is also a good time for families to come together, to turn off  not just the lights but the television and other electronic devices. Light candles, spend time talking and communicating the old fashioned way. This is how I intend to spend my Earth Hour.

For more information about Earth Hour, visit the official website HERE. Are you planning on participating in Earth Hour this year?
