Work Life Balance: More Family, Less Posts

Work Life Balance More Family, Less Posts

If you know me and have been on this website of mine for any length of time, then you may have noticed that when it comes to my business (my blog), I am like clockwork. For the past three plus years, I post on a regular basis and try to bring coverage and articles my readers will enjoy and hopefully share. Many blogging friends of mine have come and gone, and have left their blogs for more stable income, and I’ve managed to stay here making a pretty good living doing what I love. But sometimes, all of it becomes too much. The deadlines, the pitches, the emails—it is nonstop. I can tell you that I’ve worked on holidays before, and into the wee hours of the night on plenty of occasions.

It can be pretty overwhelming.

For the past six months or so, I’ve niched down my site to focus on Career, Work Life Balance, Family, and Everyday Tech. It’s been a good move, as I have more targeted information to share and I am not all over the place as I once was. Many of the opportunities and paid brand ambassadorships and spokesperson gigs are more on point with my audience and what they come to the site before. I am in a happier place as I have been dictating what it is I want to do, saying no to things that aren’t up to par with where I am going.

Work Life Balance indicates that we should do our best to balance our personal lives with our professional lives. Neither of the two should cancel each other out, and I have been working hard to practice what I preach. In doing so, I’ve set limitations. During this holiday season, I am on a mission. To show my family and loved ones that they are my priority ALWAYS. And since it is a time of the year that is all about those you love, I want my actions to speak louder than words.

I will still be online via my blog and social networks, but there may be times where you won’t see me as much. I will also be posting, but not as much as I have been throughout the year. For me , it is about more family, less posts. I want to remember this holiday season as one where I spent the most time with the ones who have touched my life the most.

For those who are also juggling work and life, don’t feel that you have to choose. You don’t. But you do have to set your priorities. There is nothing wrong with putting your family first—don’t feel guilty about it at all.

I love this post, and I completely agree with everything you wrote. I just had the thought last night to FOCUS. That word just came in my mind…FOCUS. One thing at a time. Prioritize. Family first.
    Happy Holidays, Gorgeous!

Thanks so much for commenting, Brandi. I know you know firsthand the plight we sometimes go through with our careers since they aren’t traditional. We don’t necessarily “clock out”, so it can be chore trying to fit everything in. I don’t want to fit in my family—they are the most important part of my life. Without them, I am nothing. So this holiday, I am limiting my online interaction to spend time with the people who care about me the most. Happy holidays to you and your wonderful family 🙂

This means a lot coming from you.
I don’t have the reach that you do. But at times I feel overwhelmed.
Instead of doing less, I’m going to do more. But just do it smarter.
I let my holiday gift guide get out of control so now I’ll be posting twice a day this week to meet my deadlines.
    Lesson learned!
